As can be seen in figure 1, the greatest number of waste generated is found on the 5 th day and is
composed of only organic waste. Also as can be seen on figure 2, organic waste has the highest fraction
among the types of waste generated which is followed by paper, plastic, and metal. As can be noticed, most
of my generated wastes are biodegradable waste. This is because I rarely buy packed food, and food is
readily available at home.
After doing some research, I learned that it would take at least 400 years for plastics to decompose.
Based on my generated waste, I could contribute approximately 15 grams of plastic per week that would lead
to 720 grams of plastic generated every year. If this is then the case, I was then able to contribute 14,400
grams of plastic waste which could still be present until this time. With this activity, I was able to realize that
although wastes are already part of our day to day activity, it can be minimized. Right now I am bringing my
own plastic container so that I can avoid using disposable plastic. This lessens my generation of plastic
waste.
