About us:

Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering works under the umbrella of Ashoka
Institute of Technology & Management (UPTU Code -641) established in the year of 2010 situated
at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Based on the market analysis civil engineering is the most opted
branch by the students. As we all know civil engineering is the mother of all Engineering. Growth
of our country also depends upon the work and effort of civil engineers.
About the lab
1. Geotechnical Engineering Lab
 In this lab we check the properties of soil like particle size distribution water content,
specific gravity, shear strength etc.
 For, we have sieves for determining particle size distribution, pycnometer for
determining specific gravity, core cutter for determining dry density of soil, direct shear
test machine for determining shear strength of soil, hydrometer for determining the
density of soil suspension.
2. Transportation Engineering Lab
 In this lab we deal properties of aggregates & bitumen and all the physical characteristics
of aggregates & bitumen.
 In this lab we check the properties of aggregates by flakiness & elongation, los abrasion
value of aggregates, crushing value of Aggregates, impact value of Aggregates, of course
aggregates.
 In this lab we check the properties of bitumen by Ductility Test, Penetration Test, and
Softening Point of bitumen, Fire point of Value& Stripping Value of Bitumen etc.
3. Surveying lab
 In this lab we study and draw maps of ground features.
 We use various instruments for the measurement purpose like total station for
measurement of height, distance, angles etc.
 We use plane table for drawing map of building and country features like mountains,
forests, rivers etc.
 In this lab we have compass for the measurement of coordinates and locating any
direction and to determine our position.
 In this lab we have dumpy level for the leveling purpose of road and buildings and
railway tracks etc.
4. Building Material and Construction Lab
 In this lab we check the quality of different materials which are used in building
construction like cement, sand, aggregates, bricks, concrete etc.
 For, we have vicat’s apparatus for determining consistency of cement, le-chatelier’s
apparatus for soundness of cement, and compressive strength testing machine for
determining compressive strength of concrete and bricks.
5. Structure analysis lab
 In this lab we study about the slope, deflection and different structural parameter which
help us in designing various structural members like beam, column and arches.
 We have three hinged arch, cantilever beam, and columns which can be used to analyse
various theorems like Maxwell reciprocal and flexure formula etc.
6. Hydraulics and Hydraulic Machine Lab
 In this lab we deal with the various phenomena of open channel flow like hydraulic jump,
horizontal and vertical contractions, effect of humps, calibration of flume.
 For, we have open channel flume in this lab
