We are told to interview a professional person the study communication for academic purposes. We
interviewed one of the teacher/facilitator in EVSU.

We ask him if he is good in listening. He said yes he is. It is because for him good listening skills play
a very important role in everybody’s learning. How can he learn if won’t listen? He also said that his
listening skills help him understand deeply the message of the speaker. When we ask him how did
he over-come the obstacles in listening. He told us that he is not that easily distracted even there
noises, still he can manage to listen focus. He is not into note-taking, he thinks that it is not
important as long as he is listening attentively. For him oral presentation is important specially he is
a teacher. Every talking he does in front of many people or his students/learners. He is delivering,
sharing important ideas that listeners may learn. Therefore we can say that communication skills or
his listening skill is very important especially in his chosen profession because part of his daily lives is
in school. It is his duty also to share information’s, ideas and message to listeners for their learning.

INTERVIEWING A STUDENT

Our second interview was a fourth year electrical engineering student. He said that he is a good
listener because he knows that he can correctly answer and interact to what the speaker the is
talking about. He said that a good listener can understand what the speaker means to say. His
listening skills help him to interact, share ideas and make a good communication. In case of
distractions, he can easily overcome it by simply asking questions for further clarifications in no
hesitation. He is not into note-taking but he knows that it is important to students like him for future
references in case he needs something to look back on for important points. Oral presentation for
student like him is important to learn to build self-confidence specially speaking in public so that he
can learn to speak efficiently and can explain properly for the listener to understand, therefore we
can say that listening skill is important to learn for us as a students to communicate and interact well
to the people around us. Barriers are part of communication process it is on us on how to overcome
that obstacle. And as a student we need to learn how to build self-confidence in order to be an
efficient and effective speaker.

When we conduct an interview to a BS-TLE graduating student if she is good in listening. She
answered yes but it is really important to be a good listener first in order to be a good speaker in the
future. Her good listening skill help her in her chosen career, because as a future educator it is her
daily routine to speak and provide knowledgeable information to her learners. Part of
communication is the barriers such as noise she overcome distractions through focus. Note taking is
important to her because she used to go over her notes every time she’s at home as part of her
review in a particular topic and it is her references for important details during discussion. As a
graduating student, Oral -presentation is preparation for all future educators for them to be
effective in their chosen future profession. Therefore we can say that communication skill like
