ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses
15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global
platform for sharing professional interest. IEI has
membership strength of above 0.8 million. Established
in 1920, IEI has served the engineering fraternity close
to a century. During this period of time, IEI has been
inextricably linked with the history of modern-day
engineering. In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal
Charter and remains the only professional body in India
which has been accorded this honour.. It provides a vast
array of technical, professional and supporting services
to the Government, Industries, Academia and the
Engineering fraternity, operating through its 123 Centres
located across the country and 6 overseas chapters.
Besides, IEI has bilateral agreements with about 31
international bodies and membership of another 8
international bodies of the developed nations across the
globe. Being recognized as a Scientific and Research
Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and
Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and
Technology, Government of India, IEI promotes the
cause of research and development by providing Grant-
in-Aid support to undergraduate, post graduate students
and PhD Research Scholars of Engineering Institutions
and Universities.
IEI in collaboration with Springer regularly publishes
peer reviewed international journal in five series,
namely, Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D and
Series E covering fifteen engineering disciplines.
About Pune Local Centre
Established on 29th November 1958, Pune Local
Centre is the first Local Centre established by Council. It
is the largest local Centre having more than 5900
corporate members on roll. The rich heritage of Pune on
historical, educational, industrial, cultural and social
fronts gives an insight into the growth of the Local
Centre. Over the years, Pune Local Centre has justified
its existence by organizing technical activities starting
from National Conventions, All India Seminars,
workshops, lecture meetings etc on topics related to
emerging trends in various Engineering divisions.
Publication of Annual Technical Journal having ISBN
number is the flagship technical activity carried out
only by Pune Local Centre.

TECHNOLOGY (DIAT), PUNE
The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology,
(DIAT) as it is known today, came into being as the
Institute of Armament Studies in 1952 in the CME
campus. In 1967, the Institute was renamed as & quot;
Institute of Armament Technology, (IAT) & quot;, which
moved to its present location at Girinagar, Pune. On
the basis of accreditation by the All India Council of
Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University
recognised eight courses for the award of ME degree
i1980. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the
status of a Deemed University. IAT has been renamed
as DIAT w.e.f. 1st April 2006.
Theme
In today's world, producing better quality products
with less cost, reducing lead times, improving
customers delight have become the key requirement
to remain competitive in the global market. To fulfil
these requirements, Additive Manufacturing (AM)
provides a technological tool for making solid free-
form products. It is a manufacturing technique which
has applications in all technical as well as non-
technical fields. The products are made with the use of
CAD tools and then layer by layer addition of materials
by using different AM technologies such as SLA, SLS
and 3D printers etc.The workshop is motivated by the
growing need to develop experts in the globally
competitive domains of engineering. Basic motive
behind organizing this workshop is to provide an
exposure to the technocrats and students about the
new technologies related to additive manufacturing
and its application for different purposes with hands
on training. The course is designed mainly about AM to
create general awareness among researchers, faculty
members , industry people and students.
