Using a single strand of black blanket yarn OR a double strand of Black worsted weight yarn, create a

Ears: (make 2)
Mane:
Bridle:
Head strap: Fsc 44 sts, (if head is already sewn on, place around the head, behind the ears, before
joining) join using method above (total 45 sts)
Looking at the top of the head, Sew the side straps about 20 sts apart so they are equal distance on the outer sides of
the eyes.
Note: I didn’t sew the bridle to the head.
Body:
Legs: (make 4)
Tail: (make 4)
Horseshoe: (make 4)
Eyes:
The stitch marker in Row 14 is the bottom centre stitch (throat) of the unicorn. Count 15 sts around and place
another stitch marker. Place the eyes with the bottom of them just above this round equally space on either
side of the second st marker, about 4-5 sts apart. I angled the bottom of the eyes outwards slightly. See Figure
6.
Ears:
Place the ears about 2-3 rows back from the top of the eye. Angle it slightly so the ‘top’ part of the bottom is
forward. Sew the ss row in place. Begin sewing around the ear. As you sew the ‘back’ of the ear (the part facing
the top of the head), sew a couple rows up to help the ear stick up. See Figure 7.
Nostrils:
Using a long piece of Baby Dove (1.5yds) and Yarn needle. Measure 3 rounds up from the left end of round 1 of
the head (snout). Insert the needle here and sew under the next 3 rounds above. Continue sewing, working in
through round 3 and out through round 6 to create a ball for the nostril. I repeated approximately 20 times. See
Figure 8. Repeat for the right nostril from the right end of round 1.
Head:
To attach the head to the body, centre the head and attach the bottom just above the seam of the body (round
1) up to approx. round 7 of the body (using the front loop sts of round 32 of the head as a guideline to sew to
the body)
Note: if you are sewing the head on before the heads features use stitch marker placed in Rnd 14 as your guide to the
centre the bottom of the head.
Mane:
Place and Sew the unworked ch sts from the end of each curlicue perpendicular to the body, centred between
the ears. Make sure the shorter curlicues are at the top between the ears. See Figure 9.
Legs:
To make the hoof shape use a piece of Taupe blanket yarn to sew in from the centre of the magic ring up and out
the last Taupe st (End of Round 9), repeat 5 times pulling firmly as you go, tie off and weave in ends. See Figure
10.
I recommend pinning legs as you go to make sure placement looks correct before sewing.
Attach the legs on the corners of the body by folding in the corner of the body and the end of the leg (up to BLO
round 26). Use the front loops of round 26 as a guideline to sew around the corner
Note: make sure the hoof is pointed up (split pointing down) for the front two legs and down for the back (split
pointing up) for the back two legs.
Tail:
Place the 4 pieces on top of one another crossing in the centre. Wrap the long tail around the 4 pieces. Place
the pieces vertically between the back legs, with the centre cross of the pieces approx 4 rows up from the seam.
Continue sewing the centre of the tail to the body at this point. See Figure 11.
Horseshoes:
Attach the Horseshoe to round 4 and 5 of the hoof with the split being the centre of the opening
