Show organized solution for each and draw appropriate figures when necessary. Use this page as
your front page. Use engineering lettering for your solutions. 50% for correctness of answers
and 50% for completeness and neatness.

1. Two identical convex mirrors of focal length 20.0 cm are placed 30.0 cm apart. An object
is then placed 10.0 cm to the right of the left mirror. (a) Find the two images formed by
the left convex mirror that are closest to it. Describe each image. (b) Find the two
images formed by the right convex mirror that are closest to it. Describe each image.

2. A converging meniscus lens with an index of refraction of 1.40 has spherical surfaces
whose radii are 12.0 cm and 10.0 cm. An object is placed 100.0 cm to the left of the lens.
A biconcave lens of focal length 20.0 cm is placed 200.0 cm from the first lens. What are
the (a) location and (b) magnification of the image formed by each lens?

3. The objective lens of a microscope has a focal length of fO = 5.00 cm and is 40.0 cm from
the eyepiece. When an object is placed 6.00 cm from the objective lens (46.0 cm from the
eyepiece), the final image formed is inverted and is 15 times as large as the original
object. What is the focal length fE of the eyepiece?

4. In the figure, a monochromatic light ray in air enters a glass prism (n = 1.50)
where the incident ray is parallel to the base of the prism. Find the angle  that the
final refracted ray makes with one face of the prism. Copy the figure and show all
the necessary angles. Show complete solution.

5. An arrow 1.00 cm tall is 4.00 cm to the left of a converging lens of focal length 3.00 cm.
Another converging lens, identical to the first, is 14.0 cm to the right of the first lens.
Determine the final image using ray diagrams (no computation allowed). Use the actual
measurements given. Where is the image located? How tall is the image?
