This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of both dragon fruit and rose petals as dye
colorant for clothes in terms of the clothes color reaction when soaked into water and when exposed to
sunlight. This study also aimed to determine which is more effective between the two.
The extraction of dye was done through boiling and two extracts were prepared, the dragon fruit
peels extract and the rose petals extract. The clothes were soaked in each dye extract and it undergo
washing and drying.
After the processes conducted, the researchers randomly selected 30 respondents from the
researchers’ Facebook friends to determine the color intensity level of each clothes.
The researchers also conducted another survey with the same 30 respondents to determine what
was more effective between the two dyes. There are two statements; the first states that dragon fruit extract
is much more effective and the second states that rose petal extract was more effective than dragon fruit
extract. Randomly selected respondents chose from the corresponding 1-5 scales; 1 is strongly agree, 2 is
agree, 3 is neutral, 4 is disagree and 5 is strongly disagree.
The average weighted mean of statement 1 is 1.63 which falls in the range of “agree” in the Likert
Scale of agreement. While statement 2 got an average of 3.73 which falls in the range of “disagree” in the
Likert Scale of agreement. The researchers concluded that dragon fruit is more effective than rose petals.
