Welcome to FSHELI.CH Sud Aviation Lama for FSX
Programmer’s preface

Hello, my name is Peter Salzgeber. My objective is to build helicopters for Microsoft Flight simulator offering you a flight
experience as close to real life as possible. Not only allow my helicopters the users to fly around, but they also support air
transport missions that are typical for this type of aircraft. The Sud Aviation SA315B Lama
V4 for FS2004, an earlier add-on for Microsoft Flight-Simulator of mine, already supported
such transport missions. Now, I am glad to present a new edition for the current FSX.

Thanks to the help of helicopter operators, pilots und engineers who gave me most useful
hints about the helicopter, I finally was able to build this Lama. The Lama allows a
helicopter experience coming as close to real life as possible. The given limits of Microsoft
Flight Simulator – unfortunately – make a 100% realistic rendition of a helicopter impossible
at the present stage. However, I hope you will enjoy your flights in my Lama "X"!

Before we start Peter Salzgeber, FSHeli.ch

…the Installation
Please close all applications bevor you install the Lama. In Windows XP or Vista the installer starts automatically, as
long as the autorun option in Windows has not been deactivated (CD version only). In Windows XP and Vista you
need to be logged onto your system as an administrator. The Lama installs to the right folder all by itself: just let the
installer run, answering the dialogues which may pop up by selecting "OK". The installer also finds the Flight Simulator
folder by itself.

Please install Flight Simulator X Service Pack 1. You can download it from here:
http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXServicePack1.aspx

We also recommend you use Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 or the acceleration pack for FSX.
http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXServicePack2.aspx

...the choice

In the aircraft menu select Lama X. You can choose

between 11 configurations and 9 livrees.

Tick the checkbox at "Show all versions"

First load a standard FSX aircraft (for example the

Jet Ranger or the Cessna). Load the Lama X only
afterwards, or use one of the predefined flights.

By doing this, you prevent malfunctions in instruments

and controls of this complex add-on.

The "smoke" command "I" controls spraying in the spray unit or water
delivery in the Bambi Bucket.

The acceleration pack allows you now to fly loads as you would in reality.
We created six missions especially for training this. Read more on this
below.

When you select Lama X the first time in FSX, you are asked if you would like to run this software. Select "run" and
then "yes". You need to confirm this once for every instrument from sa315000.gau up to sa315009.gau.

… suggested settings

In order to make best use of your Lama, we recommend you

choose the following settings:

• Reality settings in the aircraft menu on medium for

beginners, and slide control to the far right for pros.

• Activate "aircraft casts shadow..." and "landing lights

illuminate ground" in the options menu - Settings -
monitor - aircraft.

• Set texture quality and light effects rather on high.

• Set joystick sensitivity on very sensitive, the dead zone

on "0". With joysticks like "Microsoft ForceFeedback2"
reduce range of motion in the calibrate menu. The stick
has to support very subtle movements, you are steering
a helicopter, not a Venetian gondola☺.

Tip: use FSUIPC 4.0 or above by Peter Dowson, to best configure your joystick and pedal settings.
Available here: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html Find the recommended settings below:

Here we go… Now you are sitting in the Lama cockpit the very
first time. We assume you use 3D, the virtual
cockpit. You now need to follow these steps:
…first steps in the cockpit
• For best overview, set the zoom in the
virtual cockpit to a value between 0.30 and
0.40

• If you are using a widescreen display you

need to change the following setting: open
FSX.cfg in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX
and define
[Display]
WideViewAspect=True
.
• A standard 2D cockpit no longer exists in
the FSX version.

... other stuff you need to know

The rotor brake can be put on by clicking on it,

when the engine is idle (move "throttle" as far back
as possible or Ctrl+F1) and rotary speed of the
main rotor < 175 RPM. You can see the warning
"parking brake".

The landing lights can be switched on and off and moved in and out by clicking the control on the collective.

The "A" key allows

you to change
panel views to
bubble, radio stack
and overhead. (*In
the winch model
this is the winch
operator's view.)

THROTTLE

You can control the white lever in the pedestal using the mouse
(red = emergency valve, fuel cut off = accelerator, "throttle").

„Pas-General“: the blade angle and its display

The display of the blade angle is an
important parameter, which always has
to be watched when flying a Lama.
Exceeding the limit (bow, light
indicating performance limit goes on)
results in rotor speed slowing down.
The resulting stall provokes the
helicopter to abruptly lose height,
which could then lead to a crash.
Lowering the collective lever will cause
rotor speed to increase again. Once
the light indicating performance limit is
out, the machine can be 'caught' by
slowly pulling the collective lever.

Missions for
acceleration pack

Description
For “Acceleration-Pack”, this software
includes 6 training units for the Lama:
(They only work with the FSX acceleration
pack and they are only installed when the
“Acceleration-Pack”for FSX has been
installed on your computer)

• Sling-load training at Raron and

Zermatt You can pick up several
objects on the bases and around
them. These loads can be flown to a
destination of your choice, also up to
the cabins. You can choose between
an 8 meter or 16 meter sling to fly the
missions.

• Sling rescue training at the

Matterhorn Taking off from Zermatt
air base you fly to the Matterhorn
cabin, to pick up the rescuer using the
long line. Then you fly a dramatic
rescue mission at the Matterhorn

• Winch rescue training at the

Matterhorn Start at the Matterhorn
cabin, hook the rescuer up to the
long-line, and fly a spectacular
rescue mission at the Matterhorn.

We recommend you fly the helicopter tutorials in preparation, as well as going through the sling load tutorial using EH101
of the “Acceleration-Pack” for FSX.

The Raron base including its various objects. Dramatic rescue mission at the Matterhorn.

The missions are free training flights without any specific tasks or objectives. There are no voices or specifications.
You cannot earn any awards. Let your imagination run wild. Take the objects to any place you like, in any order. Practice
makes perfect!

Problem handling missions/sceneries:

If you have installed the wrong scenery version, you can change the scenery settings from your desktop at any time, using
the "Lamax scenery settings" tool.

• I do not have any LamaX missions: the “Acceleration-Pack” for FSX must be installed.
• I don't see the sceneries: The scenery must be registered in world/scenery library.
• I don't see the Zermatt-Gotthard train: The train is only installed with the advanced scenery.
• The helicopter or the scenery are not at the right place at the start of a mission: install the right scenery
version (default or advanced meshes for CHproX etc.)
• The objects are not visible (usually Zermatt sling load): re-load flight.
• The helicopter is below the platform or the turbine runs awkwardly (Zermatt sling rescue): Re-load flight.

The missions and sceneries are optimised for use on Switzerland Profession X by FlyLogic.

The “Acceleration-Pack” for FSX as well as “Switzerland Profession X” are

available at specialist retailers as well as at
www.flylogicsoftware.com
www.flightandfun.de – www.aerosoft.de – www.simmarket.com

The missions are open source. You may change them as you like or create new ones using the object placement tool.
However, the files are protected intellectual property and may not be distributed as freeware or in any other form.

Object placement tool

The object placement tool is integrated in the acceleration pack for FSX's SDK. Read more on this in the SDK under
"Mission Creation Kit". The secret of success as always: Read instructions thoroughly and do everything step by step as
described.

After correct installation, you will find the object placement tool in tools/object placement tool.

On http://www.fsinsider.com you find interesting and helpful information and links.

We hope you understand that we cannot answer support questions about the object placement tool.
This tool has been documented extensively in the SDK and on the internet.
