ISO GPS -

IMPLEMENTATION AT YCG
19.02.2018

Geometric Product Specification

The ISO GPS Standard system

• ISO GPS is a complex and Sophisticated „Geometric Language"

• Technical drawings using GPS provide complete and comprehensive part

information with consistent interpretations

• Furthermore, all requirements for measurements, measuring equipment and

their calibration needed for validation are described

• The applicable standards for this latest system were first approved in 2010

• Basic ISO GPS standards used are: ISO8015, ISO14638

• Other related standards to understand YCG drawing implementation are:

ISO1101, ISO5459, ISO14405-1, ISO14405-2, ISO14405-3
Ground Rule for Usage of GPS (ISO8015)
• Rule: Once a subset of the ISO GPS system is invoked in a product/part specification, the
entire ISO GPS system is considered to be invoked unless otherwise identified in the
documentation. In example below, while each of the symbols are identified by different ISO
standards, they all belong to GPS and it is assumed the entire GPS system is invoked.

As per ISO 5459

As per ISO 1101

As per ISO 286

As per ISO 1302

As per ISO 2768

Other Ground rules for GPS (ISO 8015)

• Ground Rule for Contract

Requirements that are not specified on the drawing (entire documentation on the specification of the
workpiece) can not be claimed under contract law

• Ground Rule for Independence

Every Feature tolerances and dimensions must be satisfied independent of other requirements for that
feature

• Ground Rule for Reference Conditions

Standard temperature 20 °C and unpolluted workpiece

• Ground Rule for Functional Mastery

GPS always describes the function of the part/workpiece. In practice, if this is not possible and if there
are ambiguities, then it is the responsibility of Engineering to clarify.

This is not a complete list!

Conclusion

 YCG has implemented a world-wide accepted GPS system

 Yanmar Compact Germany expects Suppliers to understand and implement

GPS for all parts supplied to us.

 New drawings will be created with GPS system, however, old drawings will
continue to remain valid unless specifically informed.
