Here are the top 10 Hallyu hot spots in Seoul
where you can follow the traces of the Hallyu stars.
MUST-DO! The natural stream of Cheonggyecheon was developed during
HALLYU BEST 10 the Joseon period in order to prevent flooding and maintain the
cleanliness of the city as well. After an extensive restoration
project conducted for two years from July, 2003, the stream is

<We Got Married>
Take a slow walk along the stream, hearing the sounds of flow-

There is a Korean saying that goes, “Tap on the stone bridge

of events are also held around Cheonggyecheon Stream, of
which the Seoul Lantern Festival in November is one of the most
popular events. During this festival, countless colorful lanterns
cast beautiful lights over the water, and visitors enjoy taking

MUST-DO! Namsangol Hanok Village presents the old landscape and at-

along the stone walls and the scents of glossy wooden floors,
as if it was moved in a flash from the past to the middle of down-

<Infinite Challenge> surrounded by gardens, ponds, and pine trees were restored
by relocating five traditional houses once scattered throughout
Namsangol Seoul including the Private Residence of the Yun Family, the
Hanok Village former residence of Empress Sunjeonghyo.
The Old Landscape <Infinite Challenge> is regarded not as a mere TV entertain-
of Seoul ment program but as an influential phenomenon due to its ear-
nest efforts to deliver significant messages along with humor to
its audience. Among its numerous episodes, “Mudo Tour” was
designed to introduce various representative tourist destina-
tions in Seoul for international travelers. Namsangol Hanok Vil-
lage was the first destination of the <Midnight in Seoul> Course
presented by Yoo Jae-suk and Hwang Kwang-hee and attract-
ed much attention from foreign tourists as a must-go place to
experience Korean traditional culture and history.
Namsangol Hanok Village displays furniture and household
items used by people once living in those traditional houses,
and provides experience programs such as Hangeul calligra-
phy and hanji origami and cultural lectures about tea culture
and Korean traditional etiquette. If you want to take a brief
rest, you can have a cup of healthy, tasty tea at a traditional
teahouse in the village. Your tour course should include the

MUST-DO! As the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbok-
HALLYU BEST 10 gung is the most famous and popular traditional palace, among
many other palaces representing the long period of the dynas-

<Moon Embracing the Sun>, to Sunjong reigned here. A royal palace refers to the highest

Gyeongbokgung Palace has also been frequently featured in
Gyeongbokgung many TV dramas. In <Moon Embracing the Sun>, Kim Soo-
Palace hyun played a king who tried to protect his love against the

clothes) is all the rage among young people these days. Hanbok

MUST-DO! The Jeongdong area in Seoul is scattered with royal palaces,

Palace, Deoksugung Palace was the official royal palace of the Korean
Deoksugung Empire, and its buildings display interesting architectural styles

Korean Empire Hall is a Western-influenced style building originally used as an
audience hall and the sleeping chambers of the emperor and
the empress. After a restoration project, this hall is now used
as Daehan Empire History Museum, and online reservations
should be made in advance for touring the first and second
floors of this museum. Also, the palace is open until 9 pm all
year round, except for Mondays, making it a popular destina-
tion among visitors looking to enjoy a walk under the ambient

MUST-DO! In the drama “What's Wrong with Secretary Kim,” the main
HALLYU BEST 10 character Yeong-jun (Park Seo-joon) prepares a lavish gift for

date destination and can be boarded as it departs from Yeouido
Quay, travelling along the course of the river all the way to
Seongsandaegyo Bridge. Cruise ships with special events are
particularly popular among courting couples, as they can enjoy
performances and food board, as well as a magnificent night
view of Seoul. In addition, cruise ships provide many events by
season and theme in order to provide a wide array of choices

MUST-DO! Sebitseom Island consists of floating island structures called

Beautiful Life> Thanks to its fabulous nightscape, Sebitseom Island is popular

Sebitseom Island Pretty,” a 2015 TV drama, was also filmed here. In the drama,
& Banpodaegyo Kim Hye-jin (Hwang Jung-eum) came to Sebitseom Island
Bridge after being humiliated by Ji Sung-joon (Park Seo-joon) to take
Moonlight Rainbow in the comfort and glowing lights of Sebitseom Island and the
Fountain Fabulous beautiful nighttime view of the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain
Nightscape under the Banpodaegyo Bridge. In “Song Ji-hyo’s Beautiful
Life,” the Hallyu star, Song Ji-hyo, spent a delightful time with
her friends riding a tubester.
The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain draws water from the Hangang
River, using underwater pumps, and jets it to the water surface
with background music and splendid lights to create a fantastic
scene. This fountain is listed in the Guinness Book of Records

miniature versions at GangnamDol Haus located in front of Exit
No. 7 at Apgujeongrodeo Station.
The area around K-STAR ROAD is truly the hub of Hallyu en-
tertainment culture. SM Global Training Center of SM Entertain-
ment is located behind the GangnamDol of EXO, and at the
end of K-STAR ROAD, near the GangnamDol of Block B, is the
building of JYP Entertainment which is the home of 2PM, GOT7,
and TWICE. FNC Entertainment, whose artists include F.T. Is-
land, CNBLUE, and Yoo Jae-suk, is only five minutes away on
foot from JYP Entertainment, and many other entertainment
companies, such as BH Entertainment of Lee Byung-hun and
Jin Goo and Artist Company of Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-

MUST-DO! The stunning-looking building in front of Exits No. 5 and 6 at
HALLYU BEST 10 Samseong Station is SMTOWN COEX Artium, where visitors
can experience diverse content and products related to K-pop
stars from SM Entertainment, such as SHINee, Girls’ Gener-

municate with their beloved artists, and just like a gift box full of
COEX & SMTOWN surprises, it consists of five floors each of which gives exciting
COEX Artium experiences to the enthusiastic followers of K-pop.
Dazzling Like a Star At the Welcome Stage on the first floor, video clips are aired
on the media wall, captivating the hearts of the visitor’s. The
celebrity shop on the second floor sells a wide range of prod-
ucts, such as items once actually worn by the stars, artists’
limited editions, and special products made by collaborations
between global brand designers and artists. At the SMTOWN
Studio on the third floor, visitors can have a chance to expe-
rience life of an artist by touring a vocal and dance training
room, recording room, and music video studio, and they also
can enjoy beverages and desserts with the theme of their stars
at the Library Café on the fourth floor.
The SMTOWN Theater on the fifth floor is equipped with a 40
m-long screen that wraps 270 degrees around the audience
09 seats and shows hologram musicals and concert videos. The
theater often holds fan meeting events and showcases as well.
MUST-DO! In the “Chain Letter” episode of <Infinite Challenge> aired in
HALLYU BEST 10 early 2016, Park Myeong-su hid his mailbox on the 118th floor
of Lotte World Tower and Jeong Jun-ha, who has acrophobia,
succeeded to send mail to Park almost in tears by visiting the

<Infinite Challenge> Lotte World Tower’s total height will be 555m with its observa-
tory on the 123th floor. Along with this tower, Lotte World Mall
Lotte World & and Lotte World Adventure have emerged as new landmarks
Lotte World Tower of the Jamsil area and as filming locations for popular TV dra-
New Landmarks of Seoul mas and entertainment shows. Lotte World Mall is a culture and
shopping complex consisting of shopping malls, movie theat-

This theme park consists of an indoor complex and a lake

and second basement floors of the new Seoul City Hall building.

You shouldn’t miss this place if you are a fan of the Korean TV drama
<Pinocchio>. The kiss scene between the so-called “Darling Cou-
ple” of this drama, Dal-po (Lee Jong-suk) and In-ha (Pak Shin-hye), 4
was filmed here in front of the main building of the Shinsegae De-
partment Store. Apart from the popularity of the drama, this building
is frequently visited by international travelers, as it is decorated with

Since its opening in 2014, Dongdaemun Design Plaza has played
a pivotal role as the center of design and fashion industries, hold-

Junior’s Yesung and his brother. Mouse Rabbit was named after

This trekking course was often featured in the TV drama <Let’s
Eat 2>, when Gu Dae-young (Yoon Doo-joon) and Baek Soo-ji
(Seo Hyun-jin) took a walk together. Ansan Mountain is not very
high (295.9 m above sea level) and includes hiking paths with
gentle slopes where even wheelchair-bound people and those
with a baby stroller can easily walk. The paths display beauti-
ful natural landscape such as a metasequoia tree road and only
takes about two and a half hours to complete. When you reach
Muak Beacon Mound on the summit of this mountain, you can
