Commandments,
Moses, Moses’ writings, Law of Moses,
Ordinances, etc.,
is the Hebrew word "Torah".

of its saturated richness:

When the Hebrew concept Torah was translated into
the Greek, they could not find one single word to
describe the full meaning of the concept of Torah.

Hard words but true. Lets now look at the first verse…

The verse used by Christians – Matt 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or

the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to
fulfill them."

Their Argument:
• Y’shua didn’t do away with the Law.

• Nor did He taught or promote the Law.
• He just fulfilled the Law and we have nothing to do
with the Old Covenant anymore.
Let’s look at this argument and see if it holds water...

The two important words in Matt 5:17
"abolish" and "fulfill"
Think not that I am come to destroy (abolish) the law

(Torah = YHWH’s Teachings), or the prophets (Neviim = who talks
about me): I am not come to destroy (abolish), but to
fulfill.

is pleroo and it has various meanings:

full measure, to fill to the brim, or

• to do away with, or
• to put an end to.

Thus, the Christian’s understanding of the two words
• "Abolish" means to them:

If we look carefully at Y’shua’s words, He says:
• He came to do the one (fulfill) and not the other
(destroy/abolish).
• Therefore they cannot mean the same thing.

If pleroo (fulfill) really means to "stop doing", are we
now to stop preaching the Gospel; as Sha’ul (Paul) has

You see the argument from a Christian perspective,
meaning from a the Greco-western perspective is
totally flawed when it comes to the reasoning – Y’shua
"fulfilled the Law"…

The words that Y’shua used: "Think not that I am come

to destroy (abolish) the law, or the prophets: I am not
come to destroy (abolish), but to fulfill" is a typical
Hebrew idiom and can never be understood if you do
not use the correct tools of interpretation, the
"Hebrew tools".

idioms to this very day when they instruct their
disciples.
