Purpose: This policy guides all the research activities with specific regulatory methods

at SVIMS. It also provides a framework for the development and implementation of all
research management at SVIMS.
Scope: To define the process of research activity, including both funded and non-
funded research, training in research and management of research.
Responsibility: Research committee, Institutional ethics committe, protocol
committee.

AIMS OF THE POLICY

1. Provide a guideline for the conductance and publication of the research work.
2. Define and prioritize the areas for research to be conducted at SVIMS.
3. Provide essential infrastructure support for the research work.
4. Establish rational, transparent, merit based decision making systems for the
allocation of financial and other support for research.
5. Promote the research and motivate the faculty members.
6. Integrate postgraduate research into the main research systems & provide the
necessary facilities.
7. Enhance the Institutional Research Profile.
GUIDELINES:

1. The research conducted at the Sri venkateswara institute of medical sciences,


tirupati must be conducted as per the guidelines by UGC / DSIR / ICMR
fulfilling other ethical/legal requirements.
2. An ethical committee constituted and functioning as per the guidelines of
Government of India.
3. The ethics committee is registered with CDSCO and it should fulfill other legal
requirements.
4. A central statistical and research unit for continual support for the research.
5. Authors can select any suitable journal for the publication of their work.
6. The researchers must be encouraged to sought the funds for their projects from
external funding agencies.
7. Internal funding for the research can be provided and the mechanism for the
same are established.
8. There should be a Research and Recognition Committee for each faculty to
guide and monitor the research activities periodically to enhance the quality of
research.
9. The faculty and post graduate students must be encouraged to attend state,
national and international conferences and present their work in these
conferences, using posters, preferably by oral presentation.
10. There is a mechanism for funding the faculty and post graduate students to
attend these conferences.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FOR RESEARCH:

1) Every application for research has to be routed through the concerned Head of
the Department.
2) The Principal Investigator has to submit an application in a prescribed format
along with study protocol for the review of the IEC/IRC.
3) Application can be submitted to the office of the Chairman, IEC, Sri
Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati, on any working day.
4) All the proposals and documents must be submitted in English language, at least
3 weeks in advance from the schedule date of IEC meeting.
5) Eleven (11) copies of study proposal (with all documents) must be submitted
along with application form duly signed and dated by the investigator(s)
6) On receipt, the applications will be acknowledged with IEC registration number
to be used for all future correspondence and reference.
7) Thesis of DM/M.Ch/MD/MS/Ph.D Courses involving ethical issues also need
EC clearance.
REVIEW PROCEDURE AND MEETING REQUIREMENTS:

 The IEC will evaluate the possible risks to the subject with proper justifications,
the expected benefit and adequacy of documentation for ensuring privacy,
confidentiality and justice issue. The IEC review will be done through formal
meetings and will not resort to decision through circulation of proposal.
 All the IEC meetings on dates that is announced and notified in advance.
 Additional review meetings can also be held with short notice as and when
required.
 Meetings will be planned in accordance with the need of the work load.
 Member will be given 10 days time in advance to review study proposals and
the relevant documents.
 IEC meetings will be minuted and all the proceedings and deliberation will be
documented. Further, Signatures of all the members who have participated in
the meeting will be obtained.
 At the end of each IEC meeting, signatures from each member who has
participated will be obtained on the final draft of the minutes of meeting.
 Applicant, sponsor or investigator may be invited to present the proposal or
elaborate on specific issues.
 Independent expert may be invited to the meeting or to provide written
comment, subject to applicable confidentiality agreement

PROCEDURE AFTER THE APPROVAL OF ETHICS COMMITTEE:

 IEC will send approval letter to the applicant after the review.
 The Principal Investigator shall send the Acceptance Letter within two weeks
from the date of issue of approval letter, failing which the approval shall liable to
be cancelled.
 Then Principal investigator can apply for the fund from the Institute or external
agency with prior approval of the IEC.
RESEARCH SUPPORT

SVIMS has designed the proactive policy to promote the research, thus motivating the
faculty members and students of the institute to undertake the activities by adopting a
policy of integration support by adopting following special norms:
 Travel grant to present papers in national and international conferences.
 Research funding for the projects.
 Installation of annual research awards and young research award.

PUBLISHING THE RESEARCH:


All the assets generated out of the fund for the project including equipment, books and
journals shall be the property of the host institution, but principal investigator will be
in charge till the completion of the project. It may be retained in the laboratory of the
investigator, but must be handed over to the college/institution in case of his/her
leaving the college/institute..
The results of the study on the project supported by the University may be published
by the Investigator/s. In all such cases, the investigator/s shall acknowledge the
support received from
the University.
(a) A spiral bound copy of the final report of work done on the project, in book form,
along with a CD, shall be submitted to the University on completion of the research
project.
(b) A copy of the “Final Report” of the work done may be kept in the Library of the
respective department and/or of the College/Institute.
