Different leaders have different distinc-
tions. Such distinctions define their personali-
ty and advocacy, creating varied marks and
leaving boundless legacies among people
whom they lead. In the case of our new Divi-
sion Superintendent, Reynaldo M. Guillena,
CESO V, he breezes in as the Zumba King.
Obviously, Sir Rey loves dancing and
he is good at it, too. He can do cha cha, boo-
gie, rhumba and sway like a pro. His grooves
are exact, finesse and stellar. As an offshoot
of this skill, he encourages his constituents to
stay fit through the latest exercise craze in
town, the zumba. This passion for dancing as
an artistic and productive way of improving
one’s physical and mental health, grooving
with teachers before meetings and activities,
he has earned the monicker ‘Zumba King.’
Having a ‘dancing’ superintendent is
indeed a fresh breathe of air. This novel ap-
proach of reaching out to a new community
was indeed a welcome change. It broke the
stiffness of leader-follower tensions.
What a unique way to start a new be-
ginning!

Into new groove

San Roque District
welcomes SDS Guillena

Administrators and teachers of San
Roque District proved that they are ready to
sway into the new groove as they welcomed
new Schools Division Superintendent, Reyn-
aldo Guillena, CESO V during the District’s
Management Committee (ManCoM) Meet-
ing and State of the District Address
(SODA) on January 29, 2020 at San Roque
Central Elementary School.
SDS Guillena graced the affair not only
to meet the teachers and administrators
whom he shall lead but also to hear out the
teachers’ concerns and questions through the
open forum conducted later that afternoon.
When asked about his brand of leader-
ship and management style, SDS Guillena
quipped that he cannot directly answer the
question. He instead invited teachers to
come and see him at his office and ‘just ob-
serve’ how he does things, explaining that
seeing how he actually performs his job
gives the observer a better perspective on
how he is as a leader.
“He is so natural. Sir Guillena address-
es critical questions correctly and with au-
thority but in a manner that lightens up the
general mood,” comments Mrs. Virginia N.
Beronilla, a teacher from Don Francisco S.
Dizon, Sr. Elementary School pertaining to
how the SDS handled the open forum.
Dr. Melinda A. Roma, San Roque Dis-
trict Supervisor, took the lead in welcoming
the SDS. Contrary to the rather formal set-up
for the SODA and ManCoM, the time with
the SDS became very lively and entertaining
as Dr. Roma, school administrators and
teachers of the school district danced zumba
with Sir Guillena.

First impressions last.

gave us a fresh glimpse of our new Division Superintendent, Reyn-
aldo M. Guillena, CESO V.

District 2020 Approachable. Many teachers agree that after listening to Sir
Guillena, he is easy to be approached and ready to listen to the
teachers.
Funny. His sense of humor is indeed prevalent in his dealings.
He also made us laugh our hearts out in the first ten minutes of
holding the microphone.
Dynamic and energetic. He can wow a great crowd and move
them to their feet in minutes.
Practical. His realistic answers to questions speak of a witty
mind and wise discernment.
Inspirational. With his amusing sarcasm, he inspires people to
do well and to live well.
Modern. He employs new ways of doing things, creating an en-
vironment of creativity.

The welcome program yesterday was indeed a showcase of good

leadership coupled with openness and willingness to listen to
teachers’ concerns. What a great welcome indeed!
