Cracks Propagate along the shoring Line

We accept that at initial stage a tension cracks will usually be formed near the shoring line,
because of disruption of soil surface due to excavation. Anyway we are monitoring the shoring
system regularly to check whether there are any sign of deflection of the system and the results
are submitted daily to the RE. I would like to note here that the results so far do not show any
significant deflection of the system. Other than these cracks which are very close to the shoring
line, there are no signs of settlement of the ground in the area nearby. Also, due to clay nature
of the layers of soil below the ground water table, we could not observe erosion of retained soil
towards the excavated area through the shoring system. Other than the design checks, all the
above observations, may justify that the adopted shoring system is sufficient for the purpose.
Anyway we closely monitor the shoring system throughout the period of excavation and will
take the required actions where necessary to ensure safe work at the site.

As you have pointed out, we do accept the fact that the shoring system and excavation along
Northern boundary is more important as it is very close to the boundary wall, which has been
taken in to account in the design, but we do not hesitate to take the required remedial actions
or do any improvement to the system if such requirement arises with the progress of works.

So far we have done only a very shallow excavation along northern boundary and the
excavation will not be done further without the erection of the required supportive brazing as
given in our proposal.
