Overall, in 2009, the amount of electricity generated in Germany was higher than
that of France. In all types, Germany paid much attention to producing electricity
from Conventional Thermal, meanwhile, Nuclear was the strength of France in
the field of generating electricity. In source of renewables, Germany focused on
Biomass power and in France, it was Hydroelectric power.

In Germany, Electricity was massively generated through Conventional Thermal,

at 59.6%, compared to 10.3% of France for this source. The share of Nuclear
power registered 23% in Germany, which was 53% lower than that of France.
Both countries exploited renewables for its electricity production at a low level,
with 14.3% and 13.7% respectively.

As regard to renewables, the segment of Biomass power held the lion’s share in
Germany, at 39.3%, compared to 8.1% that of France. The Hydroelectric power’s
fraction constituted of 17.7%, which was by far lower that of France, a difference
of 62.8%. A minority of 6.1% solar power was provided in Germany, followed by
0.9% of France for this resource. Just under 40% of wind power was produced in
Germany, whereas France derived about one in ten from it. These countries
didn’t harness Geothermal power for electricity generation.
