In case you are a more experienced hand letterer you can still use this planner -
Simply skip the first week or two, or just look for the topic
you would like to learn more about
You should complete one task each day (one day off) which should take you
approximately 20 minutes to complete - as we discussed in the guide,
it is better to practice consistently than intensively.
We will often point you to our other tutorials in order to complete certain daily
tasks since it much more convenient that way - prepare to do some reading!
We also want to encourage you to join our official Facebook group where
you can share your work and receive constant feedback on your progress.
Week 1
Objective
- We are starting with the basics.
As we mentioned in the guide there are plenty of different lettering styles,
however, we suggest it’s better to start with just 2 - sans serifs and script.
Your focus will be to practice SINGLE and SHORT words of your choice -
be sure to change the words every day.
Here are two step by step tutorials that will guide you through the process -
1. - https://www.lettering-daily.com/hand-lettering-process/
2. - https://www.lettering-daily.com/ultimate-hand-lettering-guide/
Remember
- After a day or two you might get tempted to try something new and different,
but learning the basics is a MUST before moving to something more advanced.
Be patient and try to enjoy the process!
Week 2
Objective
- Ok this week we are spicing things up by adding a new lettering style in
the loop as well as some basic colors. In order to perform this week’s tasks
you will need to read our guide about color fundamentals and how to use them
in your lettering.
On top of that you should pick a new lettering style that you wish to practice
along with the sans-serif and script style from last week.
Remember
- Stick only to 1 new style, and try to keep the colors on a basic level.
It’s better to have only 2 colors that are well balanced than having 5
that make your eyes bleed.
In case you wish to practice more than the minimum of 20 minutes it will
only bring even better results ( just don’t exaggerate).
Week 3
Objective
- In this week we will be focusing on working with multiple words
and basic lettering layouts (finally). Again, we are taking things slowly
so for the beginning we will just stick to 2-3 words tops - stick to
the same lettering styles you have been practicing until now.
Aside from the basic layout, you will implement a basic shadow
to your lettering - Don’t worry we have step-by-step guide on that as well :)
1. Layout tutorials -

https://www.lettering-daily.com/lettering-composition-tip/
Remember
- In case things start to feel overwhelming take a step back and practice
within your limits. Avoid getting frustrated because that could cause you breaking
your daily practice routine - which is definitely something we want to avoid!
When working with layouts, spend more time planning and sketching, the end result
will always be much better!
Week 4
Objective
- The final week you will keep practicing what you have learned so far
but you will also learn how to start sharing your work and engaging with
the online lettering community.
Being part of the online community is great opportunity to grow,
get feedback, network, collaborate and much more.
Here are two articles that you should check out in order to complete
this week’s tasks -
1. How to take photos of your lettering artwork -
https://www.lettering-daily.com/how-to-present-your-lettering/
- Keep sharing your work - Join a lettering challenge - Keep practicing and
and engage with the that will keep you busy gradually add new styles
community (check the with practice for the next and techniques. Reach
article for actionable month! out to a fellow lettering
steps you can take) artist and propose a
lettering collaboration.
Remember
- DO NOT have some unrealistic expectations! You won’t be able to grow your
account overnight. Building audiences is a long and ongoing process, focus on
your practice and don’t be afraid to network with fellow lettering artsits.
