IN FOND REMEMBRANCE OF MY DEAREST GRANDFATHER

My dearest grandfather was always a very jovial person whom I lovingly called 'Kokamoni'. Today,
as I try to put together my feelings in memory of my beloved maternal grandfather, Late Dilip Kr. Kakat
who expired on 14th of July,2016, I fail to control my tears trickling down my cheeks. I stll recall those
moments with sadness.

It was a hot and humid day and being a Thursday, I went for my Abacus class. On my way back
home, I had a sprain on my right leg and my mother helped me to sleep that night as my father was away
on a trip overseas. Then around 3:00 am, as I suddenly woke up, I saw my mom getting ready as if she
was about to go out. I asked her where she was going. She said that ' Kokamoni ' was admitted in the
Dispur Hospital so she had to rush there. I waved her goodbye. But after about half an hour, my heart
started beatng very fast and I was feeling scared lest if something had happened to Kokamoni. I could'nt
sleep at all so,I turned on the TV as it seemed tme was moving very slowly. I prayed to God for
Kokamoni's well being.

But around 4:30 am, I called up my mom on her mobile phone to know about Kokamoni's health.
The tme was about 5:00 am. My mother picked up the call but I could'nt understand anything as she
was crying. She told our maid that Kokamoni is no more and asked her to inform my paternal
grandparents and me as well. I was too shocked to hear the very sad and unbelievable news. Even after
his sudden demise, I stll remember his ever smiling face and the most important lesson he had taught
me :

' A bright smile is the only medicine that can heal our diseases to a large extent and also help in
solving our problems....So always try to be HAPPY'.

On his birthday on July 6th, 2016, which was about a week earlier to his demise, we visited him
and he told me as always that ' We are true Best Friends.' He always kept a collecton of chocolates for
his grand children as well as for any little one who may visit him. I know that even today he is watching
me from Heaven in the form of a bright star. And I will keep the most precious thing he had given
me.....SWEET MEMORIES.... I MISS YOU VERY MUCH , KOKAMONI.
