NOMENCLATURE

Noida came into administrative existence on 17 April 1976 and celebrates 17 April as "Noida
Day". It was set up as part of an urbanization thrust during the controversial Emergency period
(1975–1977). The city was created under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976 by
the initiatives of Sanjay Gandhi. The city has the highest per capita income in the whole
National Capital Region. Thus to give tribute to his efforts in the building of the city, the
stadium is named as SANJAY GANDHI INTERNTAIONAL CRICKET STADIUM.
INTRODUCTION

An international cricket stadium is one of those building typologies which have the ability to
shape a town or city. An international cricket stadium is able to put community on the map,
establishing an identity and providing a focal point in landscape. They represent a nation’s
pride and aspiration.
An international cricket stadium (ICS) is essentially a huge theatre for presentation of heroic
feats. Basically it is the output of the rise in the popularity of sport. It also has the following
roles in the city- economical, political, geographical, and social.

 ECONOMICAL IMPACT:- An ICS helps to generate high revenues for the owners and it
also generates more interest in the game and that will again attract youngsters of the area to
play for the state, city and even the country which will again benefit the academy when the
youngsters will come to learn the game here in the stadium. And, further the economy of
the area will also get effected as it being a monumental structure the prices of lands near it
will go high and the city is sometimes designated as the city with an ICS.
 POLITICAL IMPACT:- An ICS can play a major role in having a political impact. For e.g.
the Lucknow ICS is being provided to the Afghanistan board as their home stadium and as
there are no ICS in their country and thus that creates a good relationship in the countries if
our country need help in any other case.
 GEOGRAPHICAL IMPACT:- An ICS or simply a stadium has a good geographical
impact as within all the building constructions going on around the area a stadium provides
a breathing space in the city with a lot of grassy area as small parks are provided in the
residential areas, similarly an ICS can be used as a breathing space of a city.
 SOCIAL IMPACT:- An ICS has a great social impact on people’s life as the players
playing in the field want to improve at each moment of the game and when it comes to
performing in front of a big crowd, it gives a great feeling of endeavouring to make these
people happy who love the game and the players that work hard and perform for their
respective teams and such feeling impacts the public to be such hardworking in their fields
as these players do. Similarly the spectators gather at an ICS to get a break from their
routine life and the craze of the game forces them to arrive at the ICS to enjoy the match.
And, the gathering in an international match in India makes it evident, how much is the
importance of an international stadium in a city.
AIM

To design an international cricket stadium with an incorporated academy which is financially

self sustaining, futuristic in design in order for the structure to become monumental civic
architectural and also to become financially, politically, geographically and socially important.

OBJECTIVES

 To create an architectural image of the built form creating landmark on the urban
fabric.
 To comprehend the various issues involving in planning and design of the center
leading to the design of a lively building that would promote interaction and provide
exposure to the activities in a compelling and engrossing environment.
 To promote and enhance prospects of the sport.
 To provide for all citizens a variety of enjoyable leisure opportunities those are
accessible safe, physically attractive and uncrowned.
 To cater national and international meet.
 To train young people in various disciplines of the sport.
 To enhance a sense of national cohesion and common interest, this would act as a major
building force in society as a whole.
 To access the requirement of ICS in the light of regional potentials and aspirations of
the people.

NEED OF THE PROJECT

 ACCORDING TO ECONOMICAL STATUS OF THE CITY:-

The ICS is proposed in the Delhi NCR region which already has 2 international cricket
stadiums of capacity 42,000, and 25,000 respectively but this stadium aims to provide a
seating capacity of 50,000. Being in an urban area like Noida, high development projects
are very often to be witnessed and people in that region like to invest in such projects
which generate high revenues and increase the economy of the city.
 ACCORDING TO NUMBER OF CRICKET STADIUMS IN OTHER PARTS OF
WORLD:-
Although our country holds the record of the most number of international cricket stadiums
in a country which has reached a half century but that’s the love given to the game by the
spectators in our country that more and more numbers of international cricket stadiums are
always welcomed. So, ICS is always a referred to as a status symbol of the city these days.
For making the Noida as one of the sporting capital, an international cricket stadium is one of a
necessary ingredient.

 ACCORDING TO CRICKET INTEREST IN INDIA:-

After India’s win in the 1983 World Cup final over West Indies, the whole nation got hooked
to the sport. That win was a turning point in the sport’s journey in India. The next time India
won a World Cup was in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who also won India the 1st
World T20 championship in 2007.
The advent of Indian Premier League in 2007 was another boost to cricket’s popularity in
India. While the league saw many top-class cricketers from around the world playing for local
teams, many local Indian talents have been discovered over the 11 seasons of this league. The
IPL being the most popular cricket leagues in the world. In this league every team is provided
with 2-3 home stadiums to each team, and Delhi’s team having only one stadium as home
stadium, this stadium can be used as the other home stadium for Delhi’s IPL team.
SCOPE

 The scope of ICS is directly proportional to the scope of cricket in India.

 In the designing and planning of a cricket stadium, many aspects are to be considered
and thoroughly sorted out at various levels.
 With the coming up of stadium in a developing site, it also acts as a landmark structure
for entire site.
 The structure of the building itself adds to the aesthetics of the stadium and thus
emphasising it in its surroundings.
 Being an arena for sports the planning is to be done for and around people.
 The idea is to evolve space that would be evocative and would have unique
architectural expression in terms of shape and form.
 Planning of various ancillary spaces along with the functional spaces inside the
structure.
 To understand the different aspects of structural requirements in the designing of large
gathering space.
 Study and use of various structural systems and materials for the construction of the
project.
 Designing and planning of various services necessary to the project.
 Designing of the structure taking the future considerations as the usage and purpose of
the structure may vary.
