E-Talk Series: Start-Up Trend 2020, presented by Rama Mamuaya (CEO Daily Social)

In this opportunity, Rama shared his insight about startup trend in 2020. He also shared his
insight about current category, which consists of E-commerce, ride-sharing, and online
travel agent.

He started with e-commerce wars, the battle is very tight. Bukalapak, Tokopedia, Shopee
and Lazada are the top four in Indonesia. Shopee is the underdog, with lots of cash supply
which called “money burned”, they won the growth war in Indonesia. This is because of the
characteristics of Indonesia’s consumer. Indonesian costumer does not have brand loyalty.
So they will use the one who provide a better offer. In this situation, Shopee offered lots of
strategy by using cashback, member points, and free shipping.

He also shared his experience about startup business. In the world of startups, it changes
much more faster than other business category. They have to adapt very quick to respond
the market. There is no room for new players for each category of startup, and the winner
takes all. Every category will only have two until three players and the rest will be acquire by
the winners or will die by itself. He also talked about East Venture capital who successfully
fund 2 unicorns in Indonesia, Tokopedia and Traveloka. Those two investments possibly
gave returns more than 50 times.

In category of Online Travel Agent, Traveloka, Tiket.com and pegipegi are in the top three.
Currently Traveloka got the title of market leader in this Category.

in Fintech category, Currently Gopay is a leader in Financial Techbology in Indonesia, the

market share is about 56 % in Indonesia, but there is a chance for OVO to leading the
market share in a couple moths or years because OVO is in process for acquisition DANA.

Fintech in P2P lending sector is also growing significantly. They fill the gap which cannot be
filled by conventional banks. Banks does not want to take the risk to lend money to people
with no or low credit score. this is the role of P2P lending comes in. Government, in form of
Otoritas Jasa Keuangan also participated to make sure the startups operate in good manner
and comply to government’s regulation to protect the lenders in Indonesia.

Other than that, Insurance technology or Insurtech also mentioned although this sector is
still very young but already have lots of players. And the last one is Esports, with lots of
video games title and lots of members and the very famous Esports game titles are Mobile
Legends and PUBG.
