Mam:

I have the honor to submit the copy of my thesis title and its sub-problems.

My thesis is entitled: RELATION OF SCIENCE EDUCATION AND

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS OF INARAWAN
NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the relationship of science education and

environmental awareness of Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School.

Specifically, this study seeks to find answers to the following questions:

1. What are the profile of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National
High School in terms of:

1.1 sex;

1.2 annual family income;

1.3 highest educational attainment of mother; and

1.4 highest educational attainment of father?

2. What is the level of achievement of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan

National High School in terms of:

2.1 Earth Science;

2.2 Biology;

2.3 Chemistry; and

Page 1 of 7
2.4 Physics?

3. What is the level of environmental awareness of the selected Grade 10

students of of Inarawan National High School in terms of:

3.1 biodiversity;

3.2 waste management;

3.3 pollution;

3.4 climate change; and

3.5 environmental disaster?

4. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the selected Grade 10

students of Inarawan National High School and their level of achievement?

5. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the selected Grade 10

students of Inarawan National High School and their level of environmental

awareness?

6. Is there a significant relationship between the level of achievement of the

students and their level of environmental awareness?

7. Is there a significant difference on the level of achievement of the selected

Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School across indicators?

8. Is there a significant difference on the level of environmental awareness of the

selected Grade 10 students of of Inarawan National High School across

indicators?

9. What IEC environmental campaign material may be prepared based on the

findings of the study?

Statement of the Hypothesis

The following null hypotheses will be tested:

1. There is no significant relationship between the profile of the selected Grade

10 students of Inarawan National High School and their level of achievement.

2. There is no significant relationship between the profile of the selected Grade

10 students of Inarawan National High School and their level of environmental

awareness.

3. There is no significant relationship between the level of achievement of the

students and their level of environmental awareness.

4. There is no significant difference on the level of achievement of the selected

Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School across indicators.

5. There is no significant difference on the level of environmental awareness of

the selected Grade 10 students of of Inarawan National High School across

indicators.

Figure 1. Hypothesized Relationship and Difference between Variables

Figure I present the independent variable of the study as to profile of the selected

Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School in terms of sex annual family

income, highest educational attainment of parents. Another independent variable is

the level of achievement of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High

School in various Science subjects.

The dependent variable of the study is level of environmental awareness of the

selected Grade 10 students of of Inarawan National High School in terms of biodiversity,

waste management, pollution, climate change, and environmental disaster

Research Design

The study will employ the descriptive-comparative and correlational method of

research. Descriptive statistics is a tool in organizing and understanding the generated

data. Comparative method differentiates the different means of variables. This method is

for knowing if there is difference between and among the groups being tested.

Furthermore, correlational method of research can be described as a research design

that deals primarily with the magnitude and direction of relationship of two variables.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted in Inarawan National High School located at Inarawan,

Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. It has a population of 869 students. Of these, 158 are Grade

10 students.

Respondents of the Study

Using G-Power version 3.1, with level of significance equals to 5%, effect size of

0.50 and with a power of test of 95%, the number of respondents will be determined. The

participants of the study will include the randomly selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan

National High School.

Research Instruments

A self-made questionnaire will be used in the study. The questionnaire will be

composed of two parts. Part I will be used to determine the profile of the selected Grade

10 students of Inarawan National High School. Part II will deal with level of environmental

awareness of the selected students.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Specifically, the following statistical tools will be computed to answer questions laid in this

study.

Frequency and Percentage. These statistics will be computed to determine the of the

selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School.

Weighted Mean and Rank. These statistics will be computed to determine the level of

achievement of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School.

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This test will be employed in the study to know if there is

significant difference on the level of achievement and level of environmental awareness

of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National High School across the respective

indicators.

Pearson’s r Correlation. This will be computed to determine the direction and degree of

relationship between the profile of the selected Grade 10 students of Inarawan National

High School, their level of achievement, and their level of environmental awareness.
