1 Overview
This overview gives information needed by project managers and foremen, for
presentation to the customer and for site planning.
1.1 Presentation
For 9100 BTS equipped with few TREs, with 2 antennas per antenna network
(ANX or ANC), some customers request radio transmitting shared on both
antennas. This allows VSWR monitoring (i.e. transmission of an alarm), in
case one antenna is broken (antenna supervision).
This document describes the specific 9100 BTS hardware layout necessary
to fulfil this request.
1.1.1 Applicability
This document applies to 9100 BTS (all generations), including the indoor and
outdoor, mini, compact and medi cabinets of the entire GSM network, from
release B4.
It currently describes only standard and multiband configurations, with 900 /
1800 / 1900 Medium Power Transmitters (EDGE compatible or not).
The same rules can be applied to other configurations and TRE types, but are
not described here as there are currently no customer requests for High Power,
Low losses, AC Indoor, and extended cell modifications.
This document presents only generic configurations, but the same rules are
applied in the case of ANX / ANC / ANB or TRE / TRA mismatches in the same
BTS (in the case of sector or TRE extension with Evolution modules).Refer
to the appropriate figures, according to antenna network type (ANX, ANC
and ANB), for each sector.
Refer to this document during:
1.1.2 Cases
None.
1.1.3 Options
None.
1.1.4 Restrictions
This I.O. can be applied to any 9100 BTS generic configuration.
However, on networks where this I.O. is applied, the BHART tool can no longer
be used for reconfiguration step list and radio configuration descriptions. This
tool can only be used when normal rules (factory delivery) are applied.
1.2 Preparation
1.2.1 Prerequisites
The BTS must have 2 antennas per sector, i.e. both antenna outputs of ANX,
ANC or ANB are connected (even if there is an external duplexer for merging
both outputs to one antenna).
Customer confirmation to apply this I.O. only on a modified sector and TRE,
or on the entire BTS (refer to Impact on System (Section 1.4) )
Final configuration and planned antenna quantityes per sectors (in the case
of offline installation / commissioning, as antennas are not always available).
1.3 Scheduling
In the case of online reconfiguration, this I.O. does not introduce any additional
duration. The values given in the methods are still applicable.
Additional work occurs only in the case of offline installation / commissioning,
when no module can be added / removed, but solely moved and cabled.
Duration depends on the configuration. Use the following values (in minutes)
for estimations only.
Installation 2’ * 1’ * 2’ * 2’ * 2’ *
Cabling 1’ (TRE with AN) 2’ (ANY with AN) 1’ (antennas) 1’ (antennas)** 1’ (antennas)
De-cabling 1’ (TRE with AN) 2’ (ANY with AN) 1’ (antennas) 1’ (antennas) 1’ (antennas)
Extract 1’ * 1’ * 1’ * 1’ * 1’ *
* : Add 1’ in the case of Outdoor BTS (extra screws) for ANX and ANY, 2’ for ANC and ANB.
** : Add 1’ in the case of bridge removal.
1.5 Resources
1.5.1 Tools
No specific tool is needed in addition to those requested for 9100 BTS
commissioning (refer to the Tools Catalogue ).
Task Tools
For module fixing (indoor and outdoor BTS) Flat Head Screwdriver (4 mm)
1.5.2 Supplies
None.

2 Scenarios
Scenarios presents all checks needed before starting the operations, and all
detailed tasks to be performed during the operations.
2.1 Rules
2.1.1 Normal Rules (Factory)
Rules about module positions, numbering and radio cabling are clearly
defined in the reference documentation. They are given, for information, in the
appendices, for configurations with more than 2 TRE per sector.
The TRE filling order follows the TRE numbering rule. The TRE numbering rule
describes logical TRE repartition. For instance, in the case of pre-equipment
to 8 TRE:
In the case of 3 TRE with pre-equipment for 8 TRE, TRE1 to TRE3 are
transmitting on antenna A. No TRE is transmitting on antenna B (no
supervision).
2.2 Method
For new BTS offline installation / commissioning, refer to the BTS final
configuration in the appendices, then de-cable, extract, install and cable each
TRE in the correct position.
For online reconfiguration, refer to the BTS final configuration in the appendices,
then de-cable and extract only the module to be moved for the process, and
install and cable it in the correct position.
In the case of ANX / ANC / ANB or TRE / TRA mismatches in the same BTS
(the case of sector or TRE extension with Evolution modules), the operator
must refer to the appropriate figures in the appendices, according to the
antenna network type (ANX, ANC, ANB), for each sector.
Note: In the appendices, to order to avoid errors between TRE quantity in a sector and
TRE numbering, the TRE are renamed A, B, C, [hellip] instead of 1, 2, 3, [hellip]
Using this I.O., the TRE are installed with some free spaces. On the BTS
terminal, the TRE are numbered per sector from 1 to n, without holes. In the
case of TRE extension, for instance, new TRE are back-numbered. TRE
numbering does not follow the TRE physical position. Take care, if locking
a TRE, to select the right TRE according to the available physical position
information. This also applies to the OMC-R view.
