Sampling distribution
• All samples of certain size are equally likely
• Assumptions - have to be true in order for what youre
doing to be valid
• Sampling distribution of the mean - population of certain
size
• Ch 13 - what type of samples are there
• Simple random sample (SRS) with replacement= put
people back into the sample
○ Properties:
§ 1- unbiased
§ 2- independence - probability of one person
being picked does not affect another person
being picked
○ If every person meets 2 properties= we have srs
because if met then we necessarily have every
sample equally likely
○ You can have srs without replacement with both of
those properties but it would not list the samples
with IID

Nonprobability samples
• = useless
• Probability sample= if any of the 4 fail you don’t have a
probability sample and instead have nonprobability sample
○ 1: well defined = before collecting sample you know
what youre gonna do for every scenerio that comes
up, not ambiguity, no "we will see when we get
there"
○ 2: random at some point- not mean everything is
equally likely
○ 3: no interference - at no point does the person
collecting sample have personal decision of whos in
the sample
○ 4: everyone in the population has calculable odds of
Probability sample
• SRS would be probability sample
○ Not the best in the case that the error is not the smallest
• Stratified random sample
• Systematic sample
• Cluster
