CIRCULATORY AND RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

1. Describe the parts and Functions of the Circulatory and Respiratory System:
a. Circulatory System

1. Superior Vena Cava is a vein that receives blood

from head, neck, upper extremities, and thorax
and delivers it to the right atrium.
2. Right atrium is one of the four chambers of the
heart and comprised of two atria and
ventricles.
3. Right Ventricle is the lower chamber of the
heart that receives deoxygenated blood from
the right atrium and pumps it under low
pressure into the lungs via the pulmonary
artery.
4. Inferior Vena Cana is a large vein that carriess
the deoxygenated blood from the lower and
middle body into the right atrium of the heart.
5. Aorta is the largest artery in the body.
6. Pulmonary Artery the artery carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs
for oxygenation.
7. Left atrium is one of the four chambers of the heart, its primary roles are to acts as a holding
chamber.
8. Left Ventricle is one of the four chambers of the heart. When blood eventually flows back
into the left atrium, and then through the mitral valve, whereupon it next enters the left
ventricle.
9. Septum. The septum that separates the two upper chambers (the right andd left atria) of the
heart is termed the atrial or (interatrial) septum, while the septum between the lower
chambers (the right and left ventricles) of the heart is called the ventricular or
(interventricular).

b. Respiratory System

1. Pharynx (throat) serves as the pathway for air and food.

2. Larynx (voice box) leads air into the appropriate
channel and functions mainly in speech.
3. Trachea (wind pipe) a long tube in your neck and chest
that carries air into and out of your lungs.
4. Bronchi are formed by the division of trachea.
5. Lungs are organs that people and animals use to breath
air.
2. Explain how the Circulatory system transports nutrients, gases, and other molecules:
 The Rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the heart is what produces the sound we
all know as “heartbeat”. The pumping action of the heart and the network of
channels are responsible for carrying and distributing nutrients, gases, hormones,
antibodies, and many other important substances that the body needs to live.

3. Explain how harmful substances affect the Respiratory and the Circulatory System:
 In Circulatory System:
The chemicals in tobacco smoke harm your blood cells. They also can damage the function
of your heart and the structure and function of your blood vessels. This damage increases
your risk of atherosclerosis. ... This limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your organs and
other parts of your body.

 In Respiratory System:
Air quality has an impact on the health of our lungs and the entire respiratory system. In
addition to oxygen, the air contains othersubstances such as pollutants,
which can beharmful to health. ... Ozone can cause damage to the alveoli - air sac in
the lungswhere exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide is produced.

4. Make a chart of disease affecting the Circulatory System and their prevention,
detection, and treatment:
