How to teach your child to read

1. Start with alphabet sounds.

Show letters of the alphabet then make the sound, let your child imitate you. Associate
with things around you.
Ex. Show letter A – what is the sound of this? Then give examples of things around you
like a a apple b b ball c c cat.

2. Blending of two letters.

After your child mastered the alphabet sounds, blend the two letters.
Ex. bl – blocks, br – brush (always associate with pictures)

3. Teach the Word Families (Seus Word Family)

Expose with words that end the same.
Ex. ab – cab, dab, fab; ad – bad, cad, dad

4. Teach the CVC words

CVC means consonant, vowel, consonant
Ex. bed, boy, cat, dad

5. Teach the Dolch Basic Sight Words

Teach this by reading level.

When your child mastered these steps it would be easier for him/her to blend 4 and
more letter words. Remember, always associate with pictures.
