Scholars, this document introduces your first project for the first semester. I have taken
care to present and explain this assignment as simply as I can, as time is very short and
you need to get this project completed… and completed well. If after reading this letter,
you and/or your parent(s) have ANY questions, please contact me as soon as possible. I
thought the best way to present information was in the form of a list.

Project Text: “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros

date or time, FOR ANY REASON(S))

How do you do it?
You are going to create a model of the Mango Street Community.
1. Read “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros. There is a little girl in
the story who is the narrator; find her; get to know her.
2. Purchase a project board from the office supply store or Wal-Mart or wherever
you can find one. This should the Presentation Board type. They are WHITE in
color. They are stiff. They DO NOT BEND. Do not get the tri-fold “science
project” board. If you still do not understand, ask me. The board must be at least
24” X 24”. Plywood is also a viable choice.
3. In the middle of the board, you are to build a 3-dimisional representation of the
narrator’s house on Mango Street. In other words, it must stand up. You may build
it out of ANYTHING YOU LIKE: popsicle sticks, card board, construction paper,
paper towel rolls, whatever your imagination and creativity affords you. It must
be attached to the board. That means it can’t fall off. It should look like the house
that the narrator describes in the book. She gave specific details about her house
on Mango Street; you build it. I will look for at least (5) five details from your
structure that mirror what she described in the book.
4. In the book, the narrator speaks about the entire little neighborhood, some of the
other buildings and all of the people around her. You are to place descriptions of
at least (8) eight other buildings, people, and/or structures in or around Mango
Street. These “descriptions” do not have to be a 3-D structure like the narrator’s
house in the center of the board, but they most certainly can be. They can be
little typed descriptions that are then pasted/attached to the board. Make sure each
one of them is attached to the board in a neat, COLORFUL and creative way.
Concerning each of the eight descriptions of people, places, or things around the
neighborhood, I will look for (3) three specific details per description.
5. Your name, along with your class period, will appear in the bottom, right-hand
corner of your board, on a piece of white paper. This information will be no
longer than 2 inches in length and no bigger than an inch in height.
6. The title. The House on Mango Street will appear [centered] at the top of the
board in letters that are two inches in height. The author’s name will appear
[centered] under the title in a different font. Those letters will be an inch tall. The
title and the author’s name will also be in different colors.
7. All words on the project will be COMPUTER GENERATED. NO
HANDWRITTING WILL BE ACCEPTED WHAT- SO- EVER!! You will have to
use you laptop. If you would need to use my printer at the school, you will need to
make an appointment with me for assistance after school if you need more time
after class.
8. All work is to be neat, colorful and attached to the board with extreme care, with
equal and proper placement. Think of the project like this: If you went to a store
and bought a “House on Mango Street Board Game”, this would be the board on
which to play. In other words, I want it done so well, so colorful, so neat, so
professional looking, that it will look like you in deed bought it from a store.
9. On Monday, you may pick up another sheet that is called a rubric. This sheet will
be the exact sheet from which I will grade your project. Keep the sheet with you
while you complete your final steps of the project. If you can “fit” your project
into this rubric, add up the points and honestly come out with an “A”, then
chances are it will happen when I assess it. I am giving you the rubric that will be
used to grade your project WHILE you are working on the project. Now, you
can’t beat that!
10. QUESTION? You need to ask them as you have then, or have your parent call me.

primer semestre . Me encargué de presentar y explicar esta tarea tan sencillamente como
puedo, ya que el tiempo es muy corto y usted necesita completar este proyecto ... y
completarlo bien. Si después de leer esta carta, usted y / o su padre (s) tiene alguna

Vas a crear un modelo de la Comunidad de Mango Street .
1. Lea "La casa en la calle Mango" por Sandra Cisneros. La re es una niña pequeña
en la historia que es la narradora; Encuéntrala; Conócela.
2. Compre un tablero de proyectos en la tienda de suministros de oficina o en Wal-
Mart o donde pueda encontrar uno. Esto debería hacer el tipo de tabla de
presentación. Son de color BLANCO. Ellos son rígidos . No se doblan. No
obtenga el tríptico "proyecto de ciencia" junta. Si todavía no lo entiendes,
pregúntame. El tablero debe ser de al menos 24 "X 24". La madera
contrachapada también es una opción viable.
3. En el medio del tablero, debes construir una representación en 3 dimensiones de
la casa del narrador en Mango Street . En otras palabras, debe ponerse de
pie. Puedes construirlo a partir de CUALQUIER COSA QUE TE GUSTE: palitos
de paleta , cartulina, papel de construcción, rollos de toallas de papel, lo que tu
imaginación y creatividad te brinden. Se debe adjuntar al tablero. Eso significa que
no puede caerse. Debe parecerse a la casa que el narrador describe en el libro. Ella
dio detalles específicos sobre su casa en la calle Mango; tu lo construyes Buscaré

aparecerá [centrado] debajo del título en una fuente diferente. Esas letras
tendrán una pulgada de alto . El título y el nombre del autor también estarán en
diferentes colores.
7. Todas las palabras en el proyecto serán generadas por computadora. NO
Handwritting SERÁ ACCE P TED sea cual SO- nunca !! Tendrás que usar tu
laptop . Si necesitaría usar mi impresora en la escuela, deberá hacer una cita
conmigo para recibir asistencia después de la escuela si necesita más tiempo
después de la clase .
8. Todo el trabajo debe ser limpio, colorido y unido al tablero con extremo
cuidado, con una colocación igual y adecuada. Piense en el proyecto de esta
manera: si fue a una tienda y compró un "Juego de mesa de House on Mango
Street", este sería el tablero en el que jugar. En otras palabras, quiero que se
haga tan bien, tan colorido, tan pulcro , tan profesional , que se vea como usted en
una escritura que lo compró en una tienda.
9. El lunes, puede recoger otra hoja que se llama rúbrica. Esta hoja será la hoja
exacta a partir de la cual calificaré su proyecto. Mantenga la hoja con usted
mientras completa todos los pasos finales del proyecto. Si puede "encajar" su
proyecto en esta rúbrica, sumar los puntos y honestamente sacar una "A", entonces
es probable que suceda cuando lo evalúe . Le estoy dando la rúbrica que se usará
para calificar su proyecto MIENTRAS que esté trabajando en el proyecto. Ahora,
no se puede superar eso!
