‘Bazaar’ is a film based on the share market and it plays up the idea of morals over money, or vice versa,

depending on which character from the film we observe.

Character Sketch

“Greed is good” - Shakun Kothari (Saif Ali Khan)

Khan plays a suave, shrewd but typical Gujarati man who has little to no qualms about sacrificing the
people in his life for monetary gain. In many ways, one can characterise him as the quintessential
moustache-twirling villain, constantly conniving and plotting his next move at ‘world domination’, but
we also get to see some human sides to him.

“Girls like to Sway” - Priya Rai (Radhika Apte)

Radhika Apte plays a young and competitive stockbroker, who believes in crossing the line for money. It
does not come as a shock, therefore, when it is revealed later in the film that has been working for
Shakun all along.

“Charity Case” - Rizwan Ahmed (Rohan Mehra)

Rizwan, played by newcomer Rohan Mehra, is our typical protagonist, ambitious, hardworking and
hungry for success. He is often heard saying in the film, “Mai Struggle karne nahi aya hoon, settle hone
aya hoon”. He idolises Shakun Kothari, who like him came from humble beginnings, treating him almost
to the level of a teacher or Guru. He realises by the end of the film, though, that he is only a pawn in the
hands of multiple handlers, until he decides to make his own mark by turning in his former employer,
idol and guru, Shakun Kothari

“Modern day Gandhari” - Mandira Kothari (Chitrangada Singh)

Chitrangada Singh plays Shakun Kothari’s long suffering wife. Her role in the film is limited, but through
her, we get a glimpse of what Shakun chose to leave behind in his eternal greed for Wealth. In this way,
she often functions as a mirror to Shakun’s misdeeds, even if he chooses not to acknowledge or care for
her the way she does him.
