2 In the short story 'The Portrait of a Lady' by

Khushwant Singh, the grandmother had a well
set routine at home. Her daily routine started
with preparing breakfast for the author, getting
her grandson ready for school and then
accompanying him to the village school. On the
way she would feel stale chapati to stray dogs. She
would then go to the adjoining temple to offer her
prayers and read the scriptures. When they had
both finished, she would return home with the
author.

Her routine changed drastically after she moved

to the city. She would feed the sparrows in the
afternoon and spend most of the day doing some
