EWA Configuration

Pre-requisites:

- All DAAs are installed and online


- Full Managed Systems Configuration has been completed
- SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR job is running on ABAP app system

Initial Navigation

Go to SOLMAN_SETUP and navigate to the Early Watch Alert Management in the Scenarios pane on the
left. It’s under the Application Operations.

Once selected this opens up the step by step walkthrough for Early Watch Alert configurations

Early Watch Alert Configuration


Step 1 – Define Scope

In this step search your search for and select your system(s). Multiple systems can be chosen at the
same time.

Hit Next to go to Step #2


Step 2 – Activate EWA

Make sure the Activate box is checked for the selected systems

Hit Next to go to Step #3

Step 3 – Check Software Component Level

Hit Next to go to Step #4

Step 4 – Display Diagnosis

Here you can check the status of SDCCN

The status should be green for all systems. To check any issues hit the Status of Self-Diagnosis option
The Self-Diagnosis web page will open, navigate to the Managed Systems tab to see a list of systems and
their status

If you scroll down further you will see a breakdown of the status and any error messages, common
issues and things to address are:

- SDCCN is not active on the app system


- Ensure refresh session is running periodically in SDCCN on the app system
- Ensure the Service Definitions Maintenance has run at least once in SDCCN on the app system
- Task manager job fails repeatedly on system - make sure the /BDL/TASKPROCESSOR/ job is running
without error in the app system

For newly configured systems select the ‘Unselected Functions’ option in the upper right of the screen

This will open up the SAP Solution Manager Self-Diagnosis Settings page, make sure the required
managed systems have the Active box checked otherwise self-diagnosis will not be performed.
Once you’ve checked the Active box, hit the Save button. The following messages will appear.

You can now exit this page. Back on the main Self Diagnosis page hit the Execute All button, and then
Yes on the confirmation pop-up.

In the upper right corner you can see the status of the job, it takes a few minutes to run.

Once it’s completed check your system self- diagnosis status again, if it’s green everything is good. You
can exit this web page, and go back to the EWA Config.
Hit Next to go to Step #5

Step 5 – Maintain Recipients

On this page you can add recipients for the weekly EWA delivery

Click the Edit button at the top of the page then click the Maintain Global Recipients button. This will
open up the Global Recipients Pool webpage.
Select the External tab at the far right. Here you can add and delete recipients as needed. Once all
needed recipients have been added exit the page and return to Step 5 – Maintain Recipients.

Click the Add button on the left side

And the following prompt will appear

Select systems and hit Next


Select the report format and hit Next

Hit the Add button and the following pop will appear
In the External User box, type out the user’s name exactly how it was entered in the previous Externals
recipient tab the hit the Apply button.
Their name will be all the way at the bottom of the list. Select the intended recipient, hit Add. The
prompt will close and the recipient will be on the list to be added to the EWA.

Once all recipients have been added, hit Next to go to the last step.
Review the info and if everything is good, hit Finish. The recipient will now be added in the Recipient list
for the selected EWAs.

Hit Next to go to Step #6


Step 6 – Configure EWA Content

We don’t’ need to make any modification here, continue to hit Next through the substeps until you
reach step 7
Step 7 – Complete

Hit Finish at the top of the page.

Early Watch Alert Reports

You can see the alerts in SAP EarlyWatch Alert Sessions. Click the tile in the SM_WORKCENTER tcode.
From here you can download a word document version of the report, or view an interactive version.

Download Report

To download the report, select a system and navigate to the Attachments tab.

Click the DOC file hyperlink and the download will begin.
Fiori Report

To navigate to the Fiori report, select a system and navigate to the Attachments tab.

Click the Fiori file hyperlink and the download will begin.

A new tab will open with the report


Create an Ad Hoc report

On the EarlyWatch Alert page, click the Create button

A pop up will appear, click the Assign button

Enter your system in the Extended System ID textbox then hit Go to find your system. Select the system
and hit OK at the bottom of the pop up.
Hit OK again for the current pop up, and you’ll return to the main page.

The following message will appear in the upper right corner:

Log into the Managed System in SAPLogon, and navigate to the tcode SDCCN. You’ll see a new task with
the same EWA Session number.
Select the task, and hit the Start Now option from the Edit menu

Once the task has been completed, log onto the SolMan in SAPLogon, and go to the SM37 tcode. Run
the SM:EXEC SERVICS job.
Once the job is finished, go back to the EarlyWatch Alert Report page and check the report.
