Are you interested In learning more about Data Analysis? You know it’s necessary to 
be a strong programmer, but you don’t know how to get started. In this workshop, 
you’ll learn how to program In python; after completing the course, you’ll be better 
prepared to learn Data Analysis.  
 
This workshop is for Analysts, Product Managers, Business Managers and anyone 
else who wants to build their Math and Stats skills for Data Analysis. Math and Stats 
are important building blocks of gathering and making sense of your company's 
data. The course is open to all and also acts as a preparation for Data Translators and 
Data Science Immersive. 
 
What You’ll Learn / Takeaway: 
Whether you have taken College Statistics, or this is your first, this class will teach 
you the foundations of Math and Statistics and how to apply them to data analytics. 
Here’s what you’ll learn: 
● Python Environment Setup 
● Applied Math in Numpy 
● Applied Statistics in Numpy and Pandas 
 
Who Should Take this Class? 
For those of you interested in learning math and statistics for foundation python 
programming, so you may be better prepared for self-study in data analysis, this 
course will help you get up to speed. 
 
Prerequisites:​ A desire to learn. 
Note:​ Previous programming experience can be helpful but is not necessary. 
Note 2: This course is also a great preparation for our Data Science Immersive.

2. Linear Algebra data structures and NumPy 
3. Matrix properties and operations 
4. Norms and systems of equations 
5. Matrix factorization 
6. Combinatorics and Probability 
7. Probability Distributions 
8. Bayesian and Frequentist inference 
9. Intro to linear models

Note: There will be no class in Mexican or USA holiday & Fridays will be used to finish

Instructors Bio:  
 
Swathi A. Nagendra - ​Swathi holds a Masters Degree in 
Engineering Management with a major in Mathematics 
from Syracuse University. She is also a founder of a school 
in India, with an emphasis on providing education to 
unprivileged children. Prior to serving as a Lead Enterprise 
Instructor on Galvanize's Enterprise team, Swathi was 
working as a Senior Data Scientist at Microsoft and various 
other startups in the past. She specializes in Building 
Machine learning workflows, Hypothesizing and 
performing experiments to prove/disprove ideas and 
building an infrastructure to perform data analysis 
efficiently. She holds a deep understanding and experience 
for solving problems using AI and is always driven by the 
desire to understand how we can use data to make a difference in the world in 
which we live. 
 
 

David Yakobovitch -​ David holds a B.S. in Finance, Information 


Systems and Statistics from the University of Florida, has served 
as an AI Fellow at Columbia University, and is finishing his PhD in 
Advanced Technology Research Methods at Capitol Technology 
University. David is a Certified NYC Teacher and Learning & 
Development Professional. He specializes in immersive learning, 
including microdelivery, live instructor-led-training (ILT), and 
virtual ILT. David serves on the Curriculum & Mentorship boards 
of The Software Carpentry Foundation, he has previously led 
Enterprise engagements at General Assembly, and he has 
mentored with Springboard. David is currently authoring "Applied Artificial 
Intelligence: Getting Started with AI in Python" for Packt Publishing, and he’s host of 
the "HUMa.i.N Podcast", a speaker series that explores practical ways to bridge the 
gap between humans and machines in the Age of Accelerated learning.
