1. Karen is hesitant to follow the order due to her religious beliefs. According to
Gen. 1:28 God commanded the first man to be fruitful (or "bear fruit," have
babies); multiply (as each new generation has more kids and they have more
kids); fill the earth (populate) and lastly; have dominion (or authority and
management) over all the other creatures. The RH law repudiates these
commandments.
2. First and foremost, it makes life incomplete as it disables people to meet one of
their needs (according to St. Thomas Aquinas), which is to procreate.
Additionally, it disables life itself as it prevents new life from being conceived.
3. Yes. Family planning methods, whether natural or artificial, mandates God's
command for humans to reproduce and as such, violates the sanctity of life in
terms of procreation.
4. Imperfect voluntary act since an obstacle such as the fear of losing her job is
present in her action.
5. Freedom; quitting job; inevitable due to her circumstance
6. Yes. As a Catholic, the distribution of contraceptives defies what God has taught
us and also as healthcare providers, we should be pro-life.
7. No, it is not noble in terms of practicing her profession as a nurse.
8. No, because while it is a righteous act, quitting her job is not a good act for her
children.
9. Since promotion of artificial family planning is mandated by the DOH, Karen
should obey. However, if she wants to protect her conscience, she should look
for another job that would not hinder her conscience.
10. Suggest that she look for another job, and recommend job opportunities for her
which would have little to no risk of placing her in similar situations (e.g private
clinics, clinics run by religious organizations).
