Chapter 1| Architectural Graphics

1. Why and What is ‘Graphics’ ?

• We understand any given idea or a thought primarily as a series of images in our minds.
• Therefore, showing an idea pictorially is the easiest and the quickest way to understand and
express it.
• Technically, ‘Graphics’ is defined as a pictorial representation of data.
• The best way to communicate an idea is also to show it as accurately as possible.
• Graphics is a means to represent these ideas as precisely as possible.
What’s its Significance in Architecture
Communication of ideas take up a significant part in an Architects
profession. Other than a verbal description of these ideas, graphical
representations help architects convey them too.

Mastering basic drawing techniques builds a strong foundations to a sound

skill-set in drawing.

It is the language used by architects to draw, develop, document and deliver ideas.
