SPORTSFEST 2019 NARRATIVE REPORT

Olongapo Wesley School High School Department held its annual Sportsfest last
October 1-4, 2019. Due to the preparations for Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE)
re-certification, it was rescheduled from September to first week of October. Two months
prior to the event, the MAPEH club managed to secure the permit to utilize the Olongapo
Rizal Triangle, Olongapo City Swimming Pool and Oval Track, as well as the East Tapinac
Covered Court. Also, for the first time, E-Games were included in the event.
The pre-opening was held at the Olongapo Wesley School‘s quadrangle. All teams
paraded their colorful jerseys along with their advisers. The event started with prayers and
hope that the spirit of sportsmanship will be upon them. After the pre – opening, everyone
proceeded to Olongapo Rizal Triangle for the basketball and volleyball games. Double
elimination type of game was used which means, if a team has 2 losses, they will be out of
the game. Before leaving the venue, 8 games were accomplished for each event and
everyone cleaned the premises.
Swimming, athletics and futsal were the games scheduled on the second day. There
were 24 students who participated but the Black Panthers dominated the game. Then,
Athletics started and finished at around 10:30 in the morning. The weather was hot but it’s
nothing compared to the burning passion of the athletes to win their respective games. After
athletics, futsal game came next. In the afternoon, everyone went back to Rizal Triangle to
continue the basketball and volleyball elimination games. The games were simultaneous
with chess, badminton and scrabble which were held at the school campus.
On the third day of the event, the weariness of the students were already evident yet,
their willingness to play and determination to win strengthened them. That day, 8 games
were finished including the basketball men, volleyball men and volleyball women
championship. The teams who won were White Wolves, Black Panthers and Blue Hydras
respectively. Due to lack of time, the teams along with the tournament manager and the
principal decided to move the basketball women championship the next day.
Futsal championship brought a different kind of excitement for everyone. In the history
of OWS Sportsfest, that was the first time that the grade 7 team was able to defeat higher
grade levels. On the other hand, Blue Hydras won the 1st place for the men’s category.
Basketball women championship followed through and Blue Hydras won the game as well.
The afternoon was nerve-wracking for everyone.
Aside from the games, two of the most awaited parts of the event were the
cheerdance competition and Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest. These events were divided into two
categories: Junior (Grades 7 8 & 9) and Senior (Grades 10, 11 & 12) Division. Five judges were
invited from different schools to evaluate the performance of the students. For the

cheerdance competition, Red Stallions and White Wolves bagged the championship titles in
their respective divisions. For the Mr. and Ms. SportFest, John Tristan Autencio (Red Stallions)
and Janelle Lumanlan (Yellow Jaguars) and Mattew Torio (Black Panthers) and Julliana
Caseja (Blue Hydras) were hailed winners.
The time wasn’t enough so Dr. Amy A. Sarabia, Principal of Olongapo Wesley School,
Inc. - High School Department, decided to move the last part of the games which was “Laro
ng Lahi” and the awarding on the following week.
So far, the Black Panthers were leading the game, but during “Laro ng Lahi” last
October 11, 2019, Blue Hydras won in many categories which led them to become the
overall champion of this year’s competition. Finally, the event concluded with the awarding
ceremony.
In totality, the annual sportsfest was a success. Through the help of all the teachers
who facilitated, the students who participated, the student leaders who maintained the
cleanliness of all the venues, the parents for their support and help, the school staff and
administration, and the Lord, our God for His guidance and provision, the goals were
achieved.
