Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in SCIENCE


Grade 5
FEBRUARY 10, 2020

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. describe the condition of the environment before, during and after a typhoon
b. act out the condition of the environment before, during and after a typhoon
c. show the importance of Public Storm Warning Signal by (PAGASA)

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Conditions in the Environment Before, During and After a Typhoon
References: Sarte, E. et al.,Science Beyod Borders Textbook 5, p. 174-177
Materials: pictures, markers, cartolina, laptop, tv

III. Procedure
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review of the past lesson
 The students will answer the multiple choice question then they will describe and
further explain the correct answer about weather disturbances.
4. Motivational activity/Drill
 Present a picture showing before, during and after a typhoon. Observe and later
infer then tell something about the picture.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
You Will Need:
Ballpen, bond paper, props (as needed)
What to Do:
1. Form a group with 5-8 members.
2. Prepare a 3-5 minute skit on what we should do before, during and after a
typhoon. You may use as many props as needed.
3. Be ready to perform your skit to the class.

C. Analysis
Based on the activity presented, the following questions will be asked:
1. Why is it important to know the weather before planning different activities?
2. What should be done before a typhoon?
3. How can we ensure safety during a typhoon?
4. Should we stay calm and relax right after a typhoon? Why or why not?
5. How does the knowledge of the indicators of Public Storm Warning Signals or
PSWS help people to be more prepared in times of typhoon?
6. Explain how being prepared helps people to survive or to become safe from
danger during typhoon.
 Teacher will use a slides/power point presentation to further discuss the lesson.
Teacher may entertain questions from pupils.

D. Abstraction
 Ask the pupils the following questions:
1. What role can social media play before, during and after a strong typhoon?
2. Why do you think the suspension of class is based on the wind intensity rather
than the amount of rainfall? Explain your answer.
 Ask some students to generalize, what have been discussed.

E. Application
 The teacher will divide the class into four (4) groups with differentiated activity.
 Describe the condition of the environment before, during and after a typhoon,
thru:
Group 1-role playing
Group 2-drawing
Group 3-poem
Group 4-sing/rap

IV. Evaluation
List down the effects of wind during the different public storm warning signals.
Write it in your activity notebook.
