Dear Hiring Manager,

I’m excited by the opportunity to apply for the Nurse Practitioner position with the Tennessee Cancer
Specialists group. I was made aware of the current opening while researching current positions on your website.
I am currently a nurse practitioner student at King University and will be graduating in May.

I have been a nurse for almost 6 years. I spent the beginning of my career in the Operating Room as a
circulating nurse at Tennova. Although I enjoyed working in this environment, I did not feel challenged. I was
wanting to learn more and to feel like I was making a difference. The last 3 ½ years in the Medical Critical Care
at UT Medical Center has made me a much stronger nurse. I have gained a lot of knowledge, confidence, and a
passion for taking care of the very sick, especially my oncology patients.

I feel as if I would be a good candidate for this position as I am eager to learn more about the oncology
specialty. I feel like I am dependable, a fast learner, and will have the ability to work independently. I am
willing to be flexible and see patients both in the office and inpatient settings. Through my experience as an
intensive care nurse, I have acquired strong communication skills and excellent communication to ensure that
my patients are receiving safe and quality care.

The reason that I feel like I stand out compared to other potential candidates is my heart and passion for
nursing. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
This quote hits home. During my career, I have made life-long friendships and am truly blessed to have had the
opportunity to love on my patients and their families during their most vulnerable times. They have made an
everlasting impression on me. I also am very passionate about being my patient’s advocate and always try to
honor their wishes. I feel as if this trait is very important in this type of specialty.

I am interested in the challenges that this new role would bring. I am looking forward to starting my career as a
nurse practitioner and I would love nothing more than to be a part of the Tennessee Cancer Specialists group
upon graduation in May.

I look forward to speaking to you further. If I can provide any additional information, please contact me at (865)
323- 6186. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Megan Schleigh, BSN, RN, CCRN
