My P.A.T.C.H. Assessment Scale Results

The Pretest for Attitudes Toward Computers in Healthcare Assessment Scale, or

P.A.T.C.H. Assessment Scale, is an online tool for self-assessment in current expertise with

nursing informatics and learning needs (Nursing Informatics, n.d.). The P.A.T.C.H. Assessment

Scale consists of 50 questions with answer choices including strongly disagree, disagree, not

certain, agree and strongly agree. Each question is worth up to one point with partial marks for

partially correct answers. In this paper, I will discuss the online results of my assessment and my

interpretation of my attitude towards computers in health care. I will also discuss my weaknesses

and my learning goals to improve my computer skills.

My score for this assessment was 38.5/50.0, which gave me an overall grade of 77%. My

results showed that I was confident in my ability to use a variety of computer programs, see

computers as beneficial in the development of society, and have an enthusiastic view of the

potential of computers in health care (Nursing Informatics, n.d.).

I agree with my results of the P.A.T.C.H. assessment. I find that using computers comes

easy for me. I was taught how to use a computer and was able to type well in Elementary School.

I have had a lot of practice with using computers for research, communication, expressing my

knowledge through different software applications, and recording information. I also value and

have a positive attitude towards the use of computers in health care as I believe that it enhances

patient care.

One weakness that I would like to work on is having difficulty with troubleshooting. It is

sometimes difficult for me to fix connection, printer, or computer problems. My knowledge of

trying to fix different problems is to turn off/on, unplug/replug, and make sure everything is

connected. If I have done all three steps and it still does not work, I usually have to ask for

additional help. My goal is to gain additional knowledge on how to fix certain problems myself

so that I do not have to rely on others as much so that I can continue with my work in a timely

manner.

Completing the P.A.T.C.H. assessment scale was valuable to me because it allowed me to

understand my attitude towards computers in health care. It confirmed that I feel confident in my

computer skills and find usage of computers in health care to be beneficial. It also allowed to me

to understand that I sometimes have trouble with troubleshooting computers or electronics and

hope to become more proficient in fixing certain problems by myself in the future.
