13. A process industry having a demand of 1000 KVA operates on a lagging power factor of
0.8. The monthly per KVA power rate is Rs. 10. To improve power factor, 300 KVA
capacitors are installed. The installation costs of capacitors are Rs.25000 and fixed
charges are approximate 12.5% of installation cost per year. Calculate the annual saving
effected by the use of capacitors. Avoid the power loss in capacitor.
14. A 3-Φ, 10 kW Induction motor has a power factor of 0.7 lagging. A bank of capacitors
is connected in delta across the supply terminals and power factor is raised to 0.9
lagging. Determine the KVAR rating of the capacitors connected in each phase.
Efficiency of motor is 90%.
15. A factory takes a load of 300 kW at 0.7 power factor lagging for 3000 hours per annum.
The tariff is Rs.200/kVA and 10 paise/kWh consumed. If the power factor is improved
to 0.9 lagging by means of capacitors costing Rs. 300/kVAR and having power loss of
100 Watt/kVA. Calculate the annual saving effected by their use. Allow 10% per annum
for interest and depreciation.

interest of 11% per annum, determine (i) Annual return of investment & payback period
(ii) Depreciation amount per year by sinking fund method.
4. In energy storage project initial investment is Rs.11, 50,000/-, its salvage value is Rs.
1, 50,000/-. Its economic working life is 10 years and annual income of the project is
Rs.3,15,000/-. Its operating cost is Rs.1,15,000/-. Assume interest rate is 12% per
annum. Calculate (i) Annual return on investment and pay back period. (ii) Find
depreciation amount per year by sinking fund method.
5. Cost of a project is Rs 8, 70,000. Scrap value is Rs 1, 20,000. Its economic working life
is 10 years. Annual income of project is 2, 50,000. Its operating cost is Rs 96,000/year.
Take rate of interest 12%/year. Find: (a) Annual return of investment and payback
period (b) Depreciation amount/year by sinking fund method.
6. For a 440 volt 3 ph 7.5 KW 1500 rpm induction motor operated for 6000hrs / year
