INTRODUCTION
Vastuvidya is the art of building evolved in india through centuries of experimentation,
theorization and adaptation to man’s ever changing needs. It has the guidelines on construction of
buildings , so that they are in harmony with natural environment by managing the flow of cosmic energy
through and around them which in turn promotes the health and wellbeing of the residents. Even though
vastu has been a part of cultural of Indian subcontinent over 8000 years, there might be misconceptions
about it. In present day construction, many prominent architects follow vastu and many do not. Hence it
is a debatable question in usage of vastu for architects.

Vastu as one of the most ancient architectural belief systems, similar to other traditional
architectural sciences such as Feng Shui, also deals with the principles designed to make the most use of
the environment and more specifically climate as one of its dominant factors. Based on the knowledge
of the Sun Rays, the Earth’s Magnetic Poles and the Geopathic Zones, many rules have been legislated
in ancient Indian architecture dealing with environmental criteria that are now considered superstitions;
however, applying them may be useful in designing buildings in complete harmony with the surrounding
nature.
