● Apply subtraction strategies in solving a variety of 2 digit subtraction problems.
● Students will learn to create subtraction problems using spinners.

PURPOSE OF LESSON
The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with time to practice new subtraction strategies, and gain confidence with this
new skill in an engaging and meaningful way.
ADAPTATIONS
● Work in a small group with Ronny and Drayten. Consistently check on Mikyla, Bailey, and Layla to
check for understanding.

PROCEDURE
Introduction: (6 Minutes)
ASSESSMENT OF PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:
Ask: Who can tell me what happens to the numbers when we are subtracting? Do the numbers get bigger or smaller?
● Ring chimes to bring students to carpet. Start timer to record how long it takes them to transition.
● Explain to students that we will be learning a new activity to help us practice our 2 digit subtraction. But, before we
begin we have to remember what two strategies we have learned so far to help us. Invite students to recall what
those strategies are.
● Invite 2 students up to demonstrate/model these strategies.
