SUB CODE/ TITLE: GE8152 – ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
Time: 3 Hours Maximum: 100 marks
YEAR/SEM: I/ I Date: 15, 16, 18, 19, 20-11-2019
Answer all questions
1. a) A fixed point F is 7.5 cm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P moving in such a way that its distance from
the fixed straight line is 2/3 times its distance from F. Name the curve. Draw the tangent and normal at a point 6 cm from F.(20)
(OR)
b) Draw three views of given isometric view. Refer Figure.1 (20)
2. a) A line AB measuring 85 mm has its end A 25 mm above the HP and 20 mm in front of VP. The front and top views of the
line measure 70 mm and 55 mm respectively. Draw the projections of the line and determine its true inclinations. (20)
(OR)
b) A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on VP on one of its triangular faces with its axis
parallel to HP. Draw its projections. (20)
3. a) A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on VP on one of its triangular faces with its axis
parallel to HP. Draw its projections. (20)
(OR)
b) A cylinder diameter 50 mm and length of axis 60 mm is hung freely in air from a point on its circumference. Draw its
projections if the axis is parallel to the VP. (20)
4. a) A cone of base 70 mm diameter and standing upright is cut by a section plane such that, the true shape is a parabola of
maximum double ordinate 50 mm and the vertex of the parabola is 70 mm away from this ordinate. Draw the front view, top
view and true shape of the section. (20)
(OR)
b) A hexagonal pyramid of side of base 25 mm and altitude 70 mm rests on its base on HP such that a base edge is parallel to
VP and nearer to it. It is sectioned by two planes, perpendicular to VP. One of the planes is inclined at 30º to HP and meeting
the axis at a point 40 mm from the base. The other plane is curved of 25 mm radius with the left corner of the pyramid as center.
Develop the lateral surfaces of the remaining portion of the pyramid. (20)
5. a) A cone of base 50 mm diameter and axis 70 mm long stands on HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP, inclined
at 45º to HP and passing through a point on the axis 35 mm above the base. Draw the isomeric projection of the truncated cone,
showing the cut surface. (20)
(OR)
b) A square prism of base 25×25 mm and height 40 mm rests on the GP on one of its ends with a rectangular face receding
away from the PP towards right making 60º with PP. the corner nearest to the PP is 40 mm to the left of the station point and 20
mm behind the PP. the station point is 60 mm above the GP and 50 mm in front of the PP. Draw the perspective view of the
prism by visual ray method. Use the top view and the front view. (20)
