Acid Base Poster Project!

You must create a colored poster about acids, bases and the pH scale.

2 Class Periods:

DAY 1: Today is research day. Do not touch a colored pencil or piece of paper until you have the
answer/information required below in your note book.

Day 2: poster creation.

Your poster must include:

Information on Acids:

1. What is an Acid? - Define

a. What do they taste like?
b. Do they lose of gain hydrogen ions?
c. Are they proton acceptors, or proton donors? What does it mean to accept or
donate a proton?
d. What pH ranges do they have?
e. What color do they turn litmus paper?
f. Common Acids that people would find in their homes.
g. What happens to the conductivity of water when an acid is dissolved in it?

Information on Bases:

2. What is a base? - Define

3. Characteristics of Bases:
a. What do they taste like?
b. Do they lose of gain hydrogen ions?
c. Are they proton acceptors, or proton donors? What does it mean to accept or
donate a proton?
d. What pH ranges do they have?
e. What color do they turn litmus paper?
f. Common Bases that people would find in their homes.
g. What happens to the conductivity of water when an acid is dissolved in it?
4.

Information on the pH scale:

5. Draw a diagram of the pH scale. It goes from 0-14 with 7 in the middle. Label where acids
would fall, where bases would fall and where on the scale neutral substances are.
6. Find the pH’s of some household liquids. Label where they would be on the pH scale.

Information on Neutralization:

7. What is a neutralization reaction? What happens when you mix an acid and a base
together?
