Mariano Baron Elementary School

Home Room Parent Duties

These are the responsibilities as written on the back to school night information sheet.

- Act as a liaison between homeroom teacher, PTA and other classroom parents.
- Contact other parents to volunteer or donate to the classroom or help with the project.
- Contact parents for PTA to help with various school events.
- Work with the teacher on special programs throughout the year.

What might I be doing?

The teacher may contact you because there is a need for helpers for a project in the class, to bring in a
treat or to prepare some materials at home for a class project. You do not have to be the one to do the
helping. If you would like to delegate the need to someone in your class, then call and find a volunteer in
your class. Volunteers may be called from the party parent sheet or the school directory.

Sometimes you may even hear the teacher mention a need for his/her class. Please bring that
information to the attention of the PTA, it may be something they are able to do to help the teacher.

Other times the PTA may need help and will ask the homeroom parents to get in touch with the parents
in their class to get volunteers. Use the e-mail list. Perhaps they need people to work at a function or
bring in snacks and drinks for a special assembly.

Speaking of the PTA –remember, meetings are held once of every month (except December). Attending
these meetings is a great way to get a pulse on what is happening in the school and the district.

As volunteers we do respect the classroom space so please communicate with the teachers to know
when they do want parents in their rooms. This should be a very enjoyable and rewarding year in many
ways for each of us.
