CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 Summary

The researchers collected the architectural plan such as the floor plans and site

development plan of the proposed MedixGlam Protean MedSpa Resort Complex in Bay,

Laguna from the preceding architecture research students of LPU-Cavite. The collected

files and data are in AutoCAD file format (.dwg) and it includes an entire site development

plan with the perspective view of the proposed resort complex.

As to aiming the objectives of this research, the proponents were able to design an

electrical layout specified as power and lighting layout. Also, the panel details, single-line

diagram, grounding system and a grid-tied solar farm dedicated for the complex. All

values, codes and standards are guaranteed reliable based on the Philippine Electrical Code

(PEC) 2017, the Department of Energy Manual on Efficient Lighting, IEEE and National

Electrical Code. The computations and results made were also evaluated for the reliable

protection requirements and was validated from the ETAP software together with a

Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE).

To be able to accomplish the entire system design, the Architectural Plan, Mechanical

Plan, Low Current System Design, complete dimensions, Legends, General Notes,

Electrical Layout, Schedule of Loads, Load Computation, One-line Diagram and the

Design Analysis were also gathered.

5.2 Conclusion

The proponents gathered the data for the architectural, electrical, mechanical and low

current system requirement for each of the building included in the complex, each data was

used for the electrical computation needed to have an electrical system that is safe and

efficient.

Using a drawing software called AutoCAD, the designers have designed an electrical

layout which consists of the lighting layout and power layout for the buildings in the

complex. The researchers also designed a single line diagram of the whole electrical system

to represent each of the electrical components in the system that will also serve as the

guiding map for the electrical personnel in case of maintenance. Riser diagram were also

designed for each of the building, these diagrams are used to show major items of electrical

equipment in a building.

The designers provided an engineering calculation for the illumination design,

protection devices, sizes of conductor, conduit and other wiring device, voltage drop, short

circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, and grounding system. The illumination design

was calculated by the designers and simulated through DIALux desktop application that

are used by professional in terms of illumination design, the data used in the illumination

calculation are in accordance to the Manual of Practice on Efficient Lighting by the

Department of Energy, Philippines. The proper size of conductor, conduit and over current

protection are following the provision stated in the latest PEC. Calculation for the voltage

drop of both the branch circuits and feeder circuits met the requirements of the allowable

voltage drop according to the Article 2.10.2.2(A) FPN No.4 of PEC 2017 for the branch

circuits and to Article 2.15.1.2(A) FPN no.2 of PEC 2017 for the feeder circuits. The short

circuit calculations are based on the provisions of the latest PEC and IEEE std. 551 – 2006,

these calculated values were verified by the results of the simulated value given by the

ETAP 16.0, an electrical power system desktop application used by the professionals for

the purpose of electrical design analysis, and met the ±5% acceptable tolerance of the

simulated values to the calculated values of the short circuit currents. The protection

coordination was represented by the TCC curve that was graphed to be able to represent

the coordination of the protection devices of the system, these curves are gathered using

Simaris App, an application that produces TCC curves for the Siemens’ circuit breaker

product, and was fully graphed in excel to have a complete output of a coordinated TCC

curve for the electrical system. IEEE std. 1584 and NFPA 70E were the basis on the

calculation for the arc flash analysis, the analysis identifies the proper personnel protective

equipment that will greatly reduce the possibility of injury or death are identified in this

analysis.

The electrical system’s simplified single-line diagram was represented in the design

power system in the ETAP 16.0. The application was used to simulate the short circuit test

on the electrical system and was also used to validate the computed values of the designers.

The researchers have designed a solar grid-tied electrical system for some of the

building in the complex, somehow, the researchers are not able to use the dedicated land

for solar use because of the power losses issue when designing a solar farm that will

distribute the power generated to a far location. The designers decided to use a roof-

mounted solar grid-tied system that will greatly minimize the power losses that may occur

in the PV system compared to the solar farm located from afar.

The designed solar grid-tied electrical system for the proposed Protean MedSpa Resort

Complex (Medixglam) at Brgy. Puypuy, Bay, Laguna was validated by a Professional

Electrical Engineer (PEE).

5. 3 Recommendation

The proponents were able to accomplish all necessary data and design analysis that is in

accordance to the general objectives of the research study. For the improvement of this

research, the researchers recommend the following:

 Design of a PV system that can distribute power with longer distribution

line that has less power losses in the system and can accommodate all the

demand loads of the complex.

 Compute for the load flow analysis, harmonics of the system and insulation

coordination for this electrical design to be more detailed and efficient
