Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*review of year learning so far!
*”es” added to words that end in “ss”, “ch”, “sh”, and “x”
* words that have the r-controlled sound made by “or” and “ore”
*Sight word review
*blending sounds
*verbs that don’t need “s”
*Our skills in reading this week include monitoring and clarifying and fact and
opinion. When we monitor and clarify we stop and think about what we are
reading as we read. We make sure we understand and reread if we don’t.
Fact and opinion refers to stating what we know to always be true (fact) and
what we think (opinion). This is an easy concept for some and more difficult
for othes.
In writing this week we worked on story summaries. The important thing
about a summary is to state the important information and events from the
story. Details are not required here. I tell the students we need to know what
happened in the beginning, the important details from the middle, and in the
end! We wrote our summary on THE CLASS PET.
Math
In Math this week we continued in
Unit 5 on Place Value Situations. We
have focused on these learning
targets:
*I can solve problems with 3
addends.
*I can count large groups of objects
by grouping them into tens and
ones.
*I can count and write numbers to
120 and find 10 more and 10 less
than a given number.
*I can add tens to 2 –digit numbers
and subtract tens from decade
numbers.
Math has been interesting this
week with me out 2 days for the
training. Some students caught on
right away and others are struggling
a bit. We will continue to practice
until this +/- ten is an easy concept.
It is an important one! We continue
to work on our MATH TALK and to
practice our facts to 10! It is so
important they are automatic.
