We all have bad days - but did you know the devil preys on you when you are the
most vulnerable?
Luckily, God gifted us with a Holy book to help guide us out of the pain inflicted
by the enemy.
The five "vulnerability points the Devil uses to attack you," written by Kelly Balarie
for Crosswalk.com are when we are Famished, Irritable, Gullible, Hurt and Tired -
F.I.G.H.T.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shall have their fill.
- Matthew 5:6
When you attempt to fill that God-shaped hole in your heart, the devil and his
minions attack.
It's easy to go after someone who doesn't understand that God is missing in their
life - it's even easier when a believer stops hungering for God and replaces their
need of God's love with their need for earthly joys.
That is not to say we should stop enjoying the small things in life - or even the big
ones. It just means that it is important to keep our relationship with Christ strong
through Bible study, prayer and Mass attendance.
When we are already unbalanced, it is easier for us to be toppled.
Irritable
Even if you are angry, do not sin: never let the sun set on your anger - Ephesians
4:26
When we are upset we often say and do things we later regret. Sometimes the
things we do when we are angry have permanent repercussions - control
yourself however you must, whether that means you need to take a few minutes
to stand outside and water the grass to think through your situation or you need
to lock yourself in your room to pray for a moment.
Remember, the devil loves when we are anything but happy. Don't give him the
satisfaction of further provoking you.
Trust your instincts - if it isn't good then it isn't from God.
Gullible
The time is sure to come when people will not accept sound teaching, but their
ears will be itching for anything new and they will collect themselves a whole
series of teachers according to their own tastes; and then they will shut their ears
to the truth and will turn to myths. - 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Know the Truth - many believe that when they sin, God distances Himself from
us. The truth of the matter is we only THINK we are distanced. God never leaves
our side and is ready to step in whenever we ask.
The devil uses our gullible tenancies to enforce the belief that we have sinned
against God and are not worthy of His promises but don't fall for it!
God loves us and will always forgive our transgressions. All we need to do is ask.
Hurt
do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give
you strength, truly I help you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand. -
Isaiah 41:10
When we're hurting we need to remember to rely on God. Turn to Him and pray,
worship or go to a religious figure in your life to talk through the pain. Don't allow
the devil to trick you into believing God is against you.
Tired
Too often we give in to our exhaustion. We feel the frustration and stress building
until it explodes in a shower of anger, pain or worse.
When we are tired, we MUST remember that God is ALWAYS there to carry us.
Though the devil enjoys playing with our emotions, it is important to remember
we are also responsible for our own actions.
We can choose to obey the devil or to trust in God. Which do YOU choose?
