TYPES OF CHEMICAL
REACTION
HAVEN FRULISHA PADILLA

BUKIDNON NATIONAL HIGHSCHOOL

Hello students, are you ready to do some activities today?
If yes, get ready for we will have a reactive journey!

1.Guide Card
2.Activity Card
3.Assessment Card
4.Enrichment Card

5.Score Card
6.Reference Card
MAIN TASK
Identify types of chemical reaction. S10MT-Ive-g-23

SUB-TASKS

1.Identify types of chemical reaction.

2. Classify chemical reactions as to the type of chemical
reactions.

PROCESS SKILLS

Identifying, Explaining, Comparing, Predicting, Analysing

GUIDE CARD
Do you know that there are
6 Types of Chemical Reaction
A. Combination Reaction

B. Decomposition Reaction

C. Single Displacement Reaction

D. Double Displacement Reaction

E. Combustion Reaction

F. Acid-Base Reaction
A. Combination Reaction

A reaction when 2 or more reactants combine to

form a single product.

The general formula for this reaction is: A+B AB

Example: H2 + O H 2O
B. Decomposition Reaction

A reaction where a single reactant breaks down into

2 or more products.

The general formula for this reaction is: AB A+B

Example: NaCl Na + Cl
C. Single Displacement Reaction

A reaction when one element replaces another element

from a compound .The more active element takes the place of
the less active element in a compound.

The general formula for this reaction is: A + BC AC+B

Example: Fe + CuCl2 FeCl2 + Cu

D. Double Displacement Reaction

A reaction when the positive ions (cations) and negative

ions (anions) of different compounds switch places, forming two
entirely different compounds.

The general formula for this reaction is: AB + CD AD + CB

Example: KCO3 + BaCl2 KCl2 + BaCO3

E. Combustion Reaction

A reaction when oxygen combines with a

hydrocarbon(compound containing hydrogen and carbon) to
form a water and carbon dioxide.

The general formula for this reaction is:

hydrocarbon + O2 CO2 + H2O

Example: C4H10 + O2 CO2 + H2O

F. Acid-Base Reaction

A special kind of double displacement reaction that takes

place when an acid and base react with each other . The H+ of
the acid reacts with OH- of the base forming water.

Example: HCl + NaOH NaCl + H2O
