Travellers’ testimonials on Discover Kedah 2017

Basking in the sun on Cenang Beach

Kedah’s island of Langkawi was a great destination for a quick beach getaway. It was an hour
flight from KL and tickets were quite cheap. The island is small so the taxi ride to our beach
resort was short. We were there only for a weekend. The beach wasn't too busy as in the places
like Phuket or Pattaya. It still had this charm of being authentic and not over developed or

commercial. Yet it had all the facilities that are suitable for a family day out on the beach; ice-
cream, food, drinks, jet skis, and crystal clear water. In the evening, the Kuah town had good
selection of restaurants serving delicious Malaysian food. It also had many souvenir shops, but
luckily this time I was able to escape them. Next time I want to spend few more days in
Langkawi and bring my golf clubs too.

A visit to Gunung Keriang

A trip to the GunungKeriang Recreational Park is nothing short of breath-taking. Formed 250
million years ago, this unique limestone mountain stands out in the middle of Kedah’s flat land
surrounded by paddy fields. Myth has it that it was formerly a ship that was turned into rock by a
supernatural creature called Sang Gedembai.Tales aside, the park offers various cave
chambers for visitors to explore. It is geologically unique and ten different rocks are found here
including the attractive calcit crystals. Pay attention to the formations in the cave and you will
realize that they actually look like human faces!

An adventure on Sedim river

My 3-days adventure in Sedim will be remembered fondly. Staying at the rural Sedim Rainforest
Resort with the numerous activities to entertain me during the day, like kayaking and whitewater
rafting down the rapids of the Sedim river, off-roading and trekking in the lush jungle
surrounding the resort, and the stunning views walking along the tree top walk during sunrise.
The best way to end those active days were with the soothing sounds of the Sedim river to help
put me into a peaceful sleep. Every person that I encountered during my trip made me feel like I
was at home. They were extremely kind and welcoming. My days and nights were filled with
positive experience that will provide lasting memories for years to come. Taking the few days to
get away from the usual rush of city life and refresh yourself.

Princess Santubong and Princess Sejinjang came from fairyland. Before they came to the earth, they had
promised the king that they would never fight. Princess Santubong was given the mandate to rule
PasirKuning while Princess Sejinjang rule PasirPutih. The people in the villages welcomed their arrival
and they soon became more prosperous. They were ordered to keep the peace in both villages besides
helping them. The beautiful woven cloths made by Princess Santubong were much admired by the
merchants. Princess Sejinjang was loved as she often helped the villagers pounding rice.

As the time went by, there were more people from neighbouring states came to Sarawak. One of the
visitors was Prince Serapi from Matang. Princess Santubong fell in love with Prince Serapi.
Unfortunately, at the same time, Princess Sejinjang fell in love with Prince Serapi too. Princess
Santubong was not pleased with this. She was worried that Prince Serapi will eventually fall in love with
Princess Sejinjang.

Princess Santubong got angry and scolded Princess Sejinjang. They quarreled very badly and their people
also began to attack each other. Princess Sejinjang swung a club and hit Princess Santubong’s cheek.
Princess Santubong paid her back by striking Princess Sejinjang on the head with a heavy stick.
Suddenly, white blood flowed out of their wounds.

The Princesses had broken their promise. All of sudden, the lightning flashed along with a loud thunder.
The king was furious. It was then the Princesses were cursed. Princess Santubong turned into mountain.
Her cheek made the mountain to be chipped on one side. On the other hand, Princess Sejinjang’s head
broke into pieces. The pieces was scattered. and became Kera Island, Satang Island and Talang-talang
Island.

To date, Mount Santubong and the Islands are still exist in Sarawak. And they have become tourist
