Modifications
• I would like to deviate a little from the syllabus to a curriculum
approach.
• I assume along with the knowledge on health you would like to learn
some basic skills as much as possible in an online course.
• I would like to move beyond just lectures on the topics listed to give
some related skills.
• I need the concurrence at least a few or those who are participating
before I move in that direction.
• Could you please enter in the chat box that this change is acceptable
to you?
• Do I have your concurrence to move forward in this direction?
Systems
• Your course begins with the word SYSTEMS
• I will be emphasising this term more during this course.
• This curriculum is also based on a systems approach to planning.
• The following is the template of the systems to this course.
Systems approach to HHSM ZG631
• Introduction
• Needs assessment
• Objectives
• Methodology
• Course administration
• Evaluation

• Now I will take you through each step.

Introduction
• As part of the MBA programme in health this course on health and
environment is an online training programme enabling the students
to gain insights relating to health, environment, leadership and
management.
• GOAL: The goal of this course is to create a desire among the
students for promoting leadership in selected areas of health and to
identify solutions to these, showing a bias towards the health care
delivery for the poor as well as applying the various components of
leadership and management in health and environment health in
areas of your own interest.
General Objectives

• To describe in detail the key concepts in health and environment

• To display select skills needed for leadership and management in
health
• To express a desire for taking a leadership role in developing health
strategies to meet the needs of the community with a bias for the
poor
Needs assessment

• Basic needs: Given by the Institute as the syllabus

• Participants expressed need: Will be determined prior to start of
sessions
• The entry level: Pre evaluation based on key concepts and attitudes
Methodology
• Methods: Online lectures with PPTs and a number of online participatory
processes as much as feasible with the available technology
• For effective participation the online chat process would be used as much
as needed and possible.
• Periodically I will announce certain instructions to be followed to add value
to the course.
• The participation of as many students as possible in the online
presentation would make this more effective.
• So make every effort to be physically present for the online presentation.
Implementation
• Venue : Online classes conducted from CMC and home

Your own specific interest in learning
• It is possible some of you have a personal idea of learning something
very specific during this course.
• Please feel free to express your personal interest and need.
• As much as possible and feasible, I will try to incorporate or at least
address those interests.
• If I am unable to address due to time or other limitations, to the
extent possible, I will link up with answers or responses to those
areas.
• You can express these either while attending online or event through
the BITS email process.
Some tips to effective learning
• Participation in online learning is the best.
• It is clear from experience that a number are unable to attend online.
• Almost all participants are able to use the PPTs provided and follow up
adequately.
• You need to note the areas which I indicate is important and where I am
laying emphasis. They are very specific. Focus on those without ignoring
other areas.
• There are 2 long answer questions and 5 short answer questions in the
midterm and 3 long answer and 5 short answer in the comprehensive
exams. This means it covers almost the entire list of topics.
Conclusion
• I assume you are clear with this systems approach to what I have
planned.
• If you have any questions please indicate by clicking your hand
symbol
• Alternately you can enter into chat box anytime during the
presentation.
• Those who are missing the live presentation can still respond by
responding through email.
