THE JOKER

Todd Phillis has delighted us with one of his works to the most human version
of the joker of contemporary times and in the history of cinema. Being this way also
characterized by being the most chilling version of all its sequels.

The Joker is starring Arthur Fleck, a lonely clown who seeks to fit with the world
around him, in this case Gothic city. That's why when you record the melancholic
streets of this city and get on the subway cars full of dissatisfied and indifferent
people, Arthur wears two masks. The first mask is when you put on your clown
costume for your day job. The second is one that has an emotional sense and that
can never be removed, a mood mask that reflects a character that tries
inconsequently to gain a recognizable place in the busy Gothic city, but at the same
time hiding a marginalized man whose life is marching in a downward loop.

Having only her mother, since he is a fatherless father, he must take care of her
because she is fragile and not in good health. She considers herself her best friend,
and names her "Happy", a nickname that reflects the opposite of what he feels and
really is. Despite the efforts made to be part of society and not be excluded, Arthur
is otherwise assaulted, mistreated by rich men in the subway, as well as rejected
and annoyed by his colleagues; situations that generate a change in him, and give
him a different perspective of what he should do and what is right according to his
opinion.

What the director does with the character, masterfully interpreted by Joaquin
Phoenix, is to reflect the internal struggle of a man who wishes to find his place in a
society as damaged as Gothic City. Aspiring to be taken into account, Arthur tries
to be a stand-up comedian, but fails to achieve his goal, since he does not have
what it takes to be. He makes decisions that we think are bad, but for him they are
fair; taking into account that for society, people like him are forgotten and neglected,
at the end of the social ladder, where nobody looks after their interests and where
the authorities pretend to make them believe that they do not exist.

Without a doubt, it is a film that shows the reality of many places, where people like
Arthur do not exist for society, and for the eyes of others are disgusting.
