We have a simple 3 zone city which is shown in Figure 1. The distribution of


employment and development opportunities are detailed in Table 1 while the travel
times are shown in Table 2.

a) Assuming = 1, calculate the accessibility index for each zone using Hansen’s
Accessibility Model.

b) Assuming that 2000 additional people need to be accommodated in the city, use
the following equation to predict the growth in population in each zone assuming
that x = 2.

c) Investigate the impact of an investment in the transport system which would


reduce travel times to and from zone 3 by 10 minutes. What impact will this have
on the additional population allocated to each zone?
