Communication style within a language …Means how we exchange information, how we show our feeling, how we understand other people. How to communicate across cultures - Understand the communication style that we and others use. - Transfering that knowledge to the workplace. 2 communication styles (CS) - context? The situation or surrounding information, the non-verbal information that helps the person understand the message better Ex: someone knocking the door right now would understand who having a class just seeing the context to you. - low context CS + Is one of the person expression’s idea directly. They put the important information into words + We don’t need the context or non-verbal information to communicate Used by:Most North Americans or Europians. Eg. Say we have never advertising agency and two professionals, both Americans are discussing an idea for an ad for flag issues. One said, I think the - high context CS +When a person express the idea indirectly through body movement, facial expresion, even silence. They show the important information non – verbally rather than speaking + The context is very significant to the meaning of the message. The context is high Used by Asians, Africans. Eg: Strength & Weaknesses of styles Low-context communicators (+)…Productive …. (+) Quickly and clearly identify business problems and find short-term solutions . (+) Fast of developing projects.
